Sexy Data, Interviews, and Personas
Part 2! :-)
This is a continuation of My First User Research Adventure.
DATA RESULTS
So I realized that I hit a very sweet spot when I decided to focus on the sexual aspect of wellness. In comparison to my peers, I received significantly more data than I had anticipated (4x more)! Sex is a juicy topic, and it’s apparent that people are eager to talk about it. This was very exciting, as that gave me a wealth of data to make some determinations for my future prototype.
I made assumptions that people had issues communicating with their partners, and initially wanted to develop an app to aid in having those sensitive conversations.
Some survey takeaways:
- Participant ages ranged from age 20 through 56 years old
- the majority of survey participants were female (58%)
- 58% do not use a digital resource for sexual wellness
- 45% of people were extremely comfortable discussing sexual concerns with their partner
- 81% have not attended sexual and/or couples therapy
- 81% would do sex and/or couples therapy (if it was necessary and could afford to do so)
- 43% of participants wanted to learn more about enhancing the sexual experience (pleasure, toys, lube, orgasms, libido, and fetish)
Upon reviewing the survey data, my original assumptions were mostly disproved. After conducting additional user interviews with my peers, it became easier to determine a focus for this project:
“Sexually active people need a credible, informative, and approachable digital resource to learn about the newest sex tips/toys/technology and to affordably connect with sex therapists. Sexually active people want to enhance their intimate experiences, as well as to resolve their physiological and relationship issues in a healthy way.”
DEVELOPING A USER PERSONA
In an effort to make our data more human, our cohort developed fictional “user personas” based on our findings. The idea is to put together an overall picture of your ideal user, so you can have them in mind when you build your prototype. In addition to developing fictional facts, personality traits and bio need to be included as well. Since most of my participants ended up being female, I decided that was a good start.
Our cohort also began working on a user journey map based on our findings. My user journey flow is in its infancy, and was birthed from post-its:
Stay tuned!
