Hello there, my name is Ankit Rana, I’m an IoT developer. Today we are going to see what is the internet of things or IoT exactly, and why this small looking three alphabetic word “IoT” making that much buzz.
When being questioned what IoT is, I try to make them understand with a practical relative example, but as a matter of fact, 50% of the public must be still misguided or do not have proper knowledge about what IoT is.
So, I decided to come up to serve all the queries, through the gained practical knowledge and the ongoing learning process.

What we can understand by this word “internet of things”?
If we simply read, we can imagine something like “Network of thing” or simply “things connected to the internet”.

Now, let’s dive into this, Rather than giving you the vague definition of IoT, which is already available on many sites and can be found easily on google,
I will give you clear understanding using a practical example. As we know anyone can give a definition based on their understanding, based on their point of view, as long as we all have a different mind!

So, you may find several definitions like:-

“The Internet of Things (IoT) is a system of interrelated computing devices, mechanical and digital machines, objects, animals or people that are provided with unique identifiers and the ability to transfer data over a network without requiring human-to-human or human-to-computer interaction.”

“IoT is simply the network of interconnected things/devices which are embedded with sensors, software, network connectivity and necessary electronics that enable them to collect and exchange data making them responsive.”

lots more definition and blah ! blah ! 😪😪
got it?
not at all?

yeah, i know it seems boring but give me one chance to change your mind:)

if you’re a smart ass(technical geek) you already getting and well aware about “IoT” and “its Wonder” after all this word already created lots of buzzes.
So in this post, I’ll give you a simple explanation of the internet of things
and what it means for you.
So now,
What is IoT?
According to me, IoT is a system in which things or I can say machines connected to the internet and to other devices with a goal to provide users with smarter, more efficient experiences. In short, a device connected to the internet that serves a specific purpose and makes that work “more efficient” and “easy”.

How?
Let’s consider a Smart Air conditioning system:-
A room equipped with a motion sensor which detects humans presence if no one is in the room, an Air conditioner will turn-off “AUTOMATICALLY” or Air-conditioner automatically set (increase/decrease) a temperature according to room temperature.

With IoT, you can control lights, fan, AC and other appliances of your home from anywhere!

Here consider one example:
You forgot to switch off the AC unit of your home. Now you’re at your workplace or somewhere else, in short not at home.
Energy waste! Increase in utility bill!
But with IoT, you can save both by turning ON/OFF that AC unit from anywhere!

You can see that it’s a savior of energy and utility bill.

Let’s imagine another scenario where your alarm clock wakes you up at 6 am and “AUTOMATICALLY” instruct your toaster to start functioning or your car informs the client that you are stuck in the traffic and might be late.

Sounds interesting!

There are lots of application of IoT.lets see this short animation video to get through it.

IoT is almost involved in each and every sector of our day to day life for example in home automation, in transport, in wearable, in health-care, in agriculture, in retail and lots more.

if you want to know more where is IoT just hit here.

I hope the wonderful IoT made some sense through the simple learning from this blog, stay tuned to know more.

To be smart, a thing doesn’t need to have super storage or a supercomputer inside of it. All a thing has to do is connect to super storage or to a supercomputer.
Being connected is awesome.
