You’ve been let down, but you are the future

Very few MPs represent young people. Students have been betrayed by the last few governments. Others have grown up in deprived areas and don’t trust politicians. Our system is undemocratic.

It’s very easy to see why only around 42% of 18–24 year olds are expected to vote this June. But by not voting, you will only be allowing this to get worse.

Under 25s are now actually in a very powerful position — if voter turnout amongst your age group were to increase this election, you could have a huge impact on the result. There ARE good MPs who work hard to represent people from all age groups and social backgrounds. Use your vote to get them elected and to kick out the Nasty Party. Tell your friends to do the same.

Around 75% of over 65s will vote, and as a whole, they traditionally vote in favour of the Conservatives, who have attacked the young by introducing huge fees for education, which will leave students with a lifetime of debt — £44,000, on average. Labour have committed to abolishing tuition fees, whilst Greens go a step further by planning to write off existing student debt.

But it’s not just about students. With the rise in child poverty and the use of food banks resulting from a vicious government that works only to protect the interests of the ultra-rich, chances are you would like to see change. The only way you’ll see it is by voting.
