I have talked about the love that is Pixel Art before, here and here and I have only briefly touched upon taking that into 3D Space. (This is where we looked at that https://bit.ly/2HzUJfK).

This pixel toolkit is a basic asset pack that gives you control of a hand built shader created by Alchemist Lab. Attach it to your in game camera and adjust it however you need!

Here are a few examples of the kits abilities in action:

The scene is a basic layout of houses, crossroads and a centaur model. You know, the normal things you find in these.

The centaur definitely makes it interesting, the choice is most likely do to how the models colors and shape translate when viewing through the kits Post Process.

As a Kit this one is relatively brief, pretty cut and dry on what it offers and what it contains. The only script that is absolutely important is the PixelEffect which is what works between your processor and shader.

Manipulating the shader is easy, just make sure it is attached to a camera that will be used in game for the players viewport and adjust as needed.

A cheap and easy asset pack for your shader pick, there are other ones for free that may be more aligned with your needs but if this one looks like something you are on board with visually then it’s definitely a solid addition to your asset library.

Some Pros to force your hand

  • Cheap
  • Easy to use
  • Has a decent degree of control over how the Post Process handles the shader

Some cons to take away.

  • The shader has some strange naming conventions that may make it hard to manipulate on your own.
