Hello from the trenches! Today we’re celebrating because: it’s almost the 4th of July, my (45th) birthday is July 5th, this is our first newsletter, and we recently reached 100 followers since publishing our first piece just a little over 2 months ago! Slow and steady wins the race… Since then a few more writers have joined forces with us and have bravely shared their stories.

Bridget Sampson gave great advice on what to do when your kid comes out as transgender (from a mom who has been there — twice!), Dr. Misty M. Ginicola shared how her trans daughter taught her grace, Martie Sirois learned she was the one who needed to transition; her child just needed to evolve into who they were already meant to be, and LAURA-ANN MARIE CHARLOT encourages other trans women how to live large in public when coming out later in life (she gave some great tips, too!)

We have a fledgling Facebook and Twitter presence — be sure to link up and follow us if you’re there!

We’re living in a time of dire need for trans visibility, and especially, for authentic voices from the trans community — not just the glorified Hollywood movie stars. From the unique perspectives of both trans adults, and parents raising trans kids, Gender From The Trenches (GftT) aims to inform, enlighten, and inspire. Through authentic storytelling, GftT is committed to amplifying transgender voices to help connect, foster empathy and spark meaningful dialogue.

We’re seeking more writers who’d like to publish their stories here at GftT. Specificallyin the near future we’d love to share your personal experiences regarding what led to your coming out (or not coming out) as transgender; your small moment stories (or your bigger than life ones) that reflect on what it is to be a trans person of color (or genderqueer, or two spirit, etc…) and stories that detail navigating all the stuff of life as a non-binary person who uses they/them (or other) pronouns.

Will your voice be added to the conversation?
