Welcome to installment #38 of GetSomeJoy’s Daily Breakfast Situation, your morning check-in with recipes, joy-flavored stories, and wellness tools.

Shoutout to you for making it to the end of Sauce Week. Have you asked for more gravy lately?

Thus far, we’ve smothered, drizzled, and dipped with creole sauce, blueberry compote, lemon curd, and avocado sauce.

On today, we spread sweet, salty joy across the dancerie with a wild card item from the neighboring Kingdom of Jam: bourbon. bacon. jam. from Extra Crispy. Not quite a sauce, but just as delightful.

Once upon a time, there was a skillet.

And from that skillet, from the greasy splendor of bourbon-deglazed bacon drippings and sautéed diced onions, came a glorious jam. A balm for the Unfulfilled and Unbaconed, they called it.

And that jam—sweetened with brown sugar and maple syrup, simmered with chopped crispy bacon, and pulsed in a blender or food processor—brought sweet, salty elation to the Unbaconed of the world, transforming their toast, their breakfast sammiches, their burgers, and their outlooks on life.

“Bacon jam me, please!” the Unbaconed cried out while accepting Jam as their savior, smearing jam crosses onto their foreheads. There was a fireworks show, a battle rap cypher.

Rhythm Nation citizens, with their open hearts and cured spiritual ashiness, lived in harmony for 120 years. Until The Great Sugar Grits War.

But that’s another tale for another day.

A few things to moisturize your spirit:

  • Good morning to fellow dance break enthusiast Sevndeep, who just released this video for his single, “Break My Back (No Complaining).”
  • Writer Chanté Joseph explored the difficulty of receiving support and treatment for ADHD and how her live changed after receiving a diagnosis.

“If there’s a little Black child being a bit disruptive, no one is going to think they might have some sort of disability, they’re going to think they’re just naturally naughty and then they get punished instead of getting the help that they need.”

Well, damn.

  • Digital storyteller, video producer, and filmmaker Hallease talked to Evelyn (From the Internets) Ngugi about preparing to quit a full-time job to pursue a dream:

Are you an artist who’s considering quitting their job to pursue their artistic endeavors full time? Are you someone who doesn’t dream of labor and wants to establish a new lifestyle for yourself? Great. This episode of the Tryna Be Somebody video podcast is for you. We’re interviewing Evelyn (From The Internets) Ngugi to learn how she did just that in 2018. How much she saved in her bank account, and how long it took to finally put in that two-week notice. Also, Hallease will discuss how she left her agency job in 2018 as well to start StumbleWell.

See you Monday.
