While most Football Associations still struggle with cryptocurrencies and new technologies, England’s most important tournament has already adopted it as a new source of benefits.

European Football seems to be in a transitional period. In most leagues, you see a repetition with their champions — Barcelona, FC Bayern, Juventus, Paris Saint Germain, The Premier League arises as the most attractive option for fans all over the world.

England also have made a huge step forward in terms of new technologies. While other tournaments and Associations continue to work traditionally, The Premier League has already adopted Blockchain as part of the present and the future of Football.

Earlier this year, eToro reached an agreement with seven British teams. “Clubs will get used to digital currencies and wallets. We hope to see player transfers in Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies”, explained Igbal Gandham, Global Manager.

Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United, Crystal Palace, Leicester City, Southampton, Brighton & Hove Albion and Cardiff City are the teams involved, while Arsenal launched digital collectibles. Next season, Watford and Nottingham Forest will also have agreements with Sports and Blockchain platforms.

The main reason -besides, of course, that Premier League teams are richer than most of the other tournaments- to understand why England doesn’t see Blockchain as a risk is that they have decided to embrace its benefits and take the leap. English newspaper the Telegraph says: “This system will also help clubs tackle ticket touting and counterfeit merchandising. Blockchain and cryptocurrencies, which have no physical form and exist only as strings of computer code, were launched with the goal of becoming decentralised currencies”.
“We are committed to technology and innovation”, stated Fran Jones, head of partnerships at Tottenham, as Paul Barber, chief executive at Brighton, said the project will “help us better understand the true potential offered by Blockchain”. The inventors of Football are now pioneers on the new era. Maybe it’s time for other Associations to follow The Premier League’s leadership.
