The Shopify POS app is yet another convenient benefit that comes along with belonging to the Shopify world. Offered by the ever-popular eCommerce platform and complete with a flawless UX experience and tons of in-app features, the Shopify POS app is your one-stop-shop for selling your product. With the POS app, you can bring your store wherever you go.

The Shopify POS app allows you to sell anywhere you go, whether that be at a pop-up shop, a festival, or even your local grocery store. You can process your orders and take payments in person — any type of payment at that. The POS syncs with Shopify to track orders and inventory across all in-store and online routes you have available for selling your products. You can access and view your entire Shopify dashboard right from the convenience of the app, on any Android or iOS device, and on any browser.

The Shopify POS is available for use on all Shopify plans, however you will have access to a greater number of features if you upgrade to the Shopify plan or higher (the Shopify plan is one step above the Basic plan — check out a feature breakdown here). Upgrading will give you some pretty cool added benefits such as staff PINs and the ability to register shifts. Keep reading for a breakdown of what this app has to offer.

Features

Payments — Shopify offers a variety of payment methods to make the checkout process as customer-friendly as possible. With low credit card rates and no hidden fees, you can use your Shopify card reader to accept payment on a variety of credit cards. Or, use an external card reader that you already own. Whichever card reader you use, make sure to take advantage of the split tender payment method and accept multiple payments in just one single transaction. The Shopify POS also accepts gift cards as payment that can be redeemed either in-store or online.

Instead of dealing with a refund, offer store credit through the Shopify POS — a win win for everyone! You can even offer custom payment options to suit yours and your customers unique needs — from cheques and IOUs to gold coins, the choice is yours. You can also choose to allow deposits or pay later options. If you change your mind and want to disable that setting, the Shopify POS makes it fast and convenient to update your payment settings on the fly.

Checkout From being able to attach notes and special requests to orders, to bringing the register right to your customers front door, the Shopify POS is a do-it-all app that your customers will thank you for. If you don’t want to ship an order right this minute, record your customers information and save the order for later. You can even customize emails and receipts to include your store information so you can make your customers experience more personalized right down to the last step.

With the custom sale feature, you can create unique and custom line items so that you can set whatever price you want to. Lastly, a huge benefit to the Shopify POS is that based on your stores location, tax is automatically calculated to make your life even easier. You can even remove taxes or set a custom tax for certain orders or products.

Discounts — The Shopify POS gives you the ability to provide any kind of discount, and with a variety of different rules. From limited time to indefinite discount rules, to limited quantity or first visit discount settings and beyond, there is a ton of room to find the discounts that work best for you and your business. Track all of your stores performance data with Shopify Reports to make sure your discounts are making a positive outcome (and income!)

Store Management — If you are on the Shopify or Shopify Advanced plan, you will be able to monitor register adjustments and staff changes, create multiple staff pins and individual pin codes, and you have the option to refund or do an exchange right from the Shopify POS. On all Shopify plans, you can view order history, keep track of daily totals, and even integrate QuickBooks, Xero, and more, to do all of your bookkeeping.

Customer Management — With the Shopify POS, you can keep track of your customers with ease with the use of automated profiles as soon as a customer makes a purchase. Their order history and contact info is synced with Shopify, so no matter where they were when they placed an order on your website, you will have that information available to you. You can also notify your customers of upcoming sales and new products with a variety of email marketing apps, as well as collect emails during the checkout process.

Products — the POS app helps to keep your products organized with filters like category, type, season, sale, and more. You can also have a variety of product versions, and have a SKU for each variety of that product (eg. size, colour, material, etc.). Barcodes are also an easy thing to deal with — assign current barcodes to products, create new ones, and scan orders using a wireless barcode scanner. However, using a barcode scanner with the Shopify POS is available only to those on the Shopify and Shopify Advanced plans. Smart Collections allow you to sort your products automatically based on things like inventory level, price, and vendor. The app will automatically stop selling products that run out of stock so you don’t have to worry about manually doing so.

Hardware — With the Shopify POS, comes a free credit card reader! Plug it into your phone or tablet so you can start accepting payments on the go with a simple swipe of a card. With the Shopify and Shopify Advanced plans, you can connect the app to the wireless Star Micronics printer to give custom receipts no matter where you are.

There are even more features that the Shopify POS has to offer, so head over to Shopify to continue reading. Don’t forget, you don’t need a Shopify or Shopify Advanced plan to get use out of the POS app, but you will have less access to a few features without them.
