The Fort of the Damned

It’s that spooky time of year, and just in time a chilling new feature has crept its way into Sea of Thieves. Old Boot Fort has been used as a site for rituals by dark forces, causing the seas around this area to breach into the Sea of the Damned, transforming it into the Fort of the Damned. This permanent new challenging Fort is triggered manually by pirates performing a ritual, contains new difficult varieties of shadow skeletons called Shadows of Fate, and yields greater rewards than ever before.

This new challenge is accompanied by a wide range of long term Bilge Rat commendations, as well as a set of limited time new voyages. For a comprehensive guide to the massive Fort of the Damned Event, we’ve got you covered right here.

Skeleton Troubles

Emergent Skeleton Captains can now be found patrolling islands without a crew. When defeated they drop a ‘Skeleton’s Orders’ letter alongside a Villainous Skull. These Skeleton’s Orders voyages lead you to their secret stash of loot, which will always include a Ritual Skull, and may include other valuable items like Reaper’s Chests, Rag and Bone Crates, Stronghold Gunpowder Barrels, and more.

The Skeleton Fleet Events (represented by a Ship shaped Cloud in the sky) that each took place in one of the original three regions (The Wilds, The Shores of Plenty, and The Ancient Isles) have gone. Instead the Skeleton Fleets have become more centralized, with two new spawning locations closer to high traffic areas. The new spots are approximately to the west of The Glorious Sea Dog Tavern, and just north of Ancient Spire Outpost, so you won’t have to sail far to start a battle- but be careful not to enter one by mistake!

Tools Not Rules

  • BANJOS have been added to all pirates’ equipment wheels. Bust out that banjo to play familiar tunes with a new twang. Equipment vendors have also updated their wares to include various cosmetic skins for your banjo.
  • Brand new cosmetic styles have been added to the Clothing Shops. Finally you can change the colour of your underwear, and the much requested more feminine clothing is now available!
  • New hair dyes in the shops! Pirate Legends may wish to speak to the shopkeep in the Tavern of Legends…
  • New pets! Skeletal versions of marmosets and cockatoo are available for purchase! Pets also make less repetitive sound effects especially when spooked, will eat food they’re offered more quickly, can be perched on new perch spots in the Taverns, AND, when using the Show action while holding a pet, they will perform a number of new actions.
  • Duke’s Black Market and the Pirate Emporium have both been updated with a host of new purchasable items

Re-Enter the Arena

  • Duo Sloops have been added to the Arena! Find yourself a crewmate and get to proving your worth in contest!
  • Six new Arena locations have been added for some extra variety!
  • Arena matchmaking now requires a crew of at least 3 people on a Galleon or 2 people on a sloop before you can join or begin a contest.

Smoother Sailing

  • The cursed Chest of a Thousand Grogs and Chest of Sorrows have seen a substantial increase in value.
  • Holding out your metal sword in the storm now increases the chances to get struck by lightning.
  • The value of Reaper’s Chest has been increased, now being worth 25 Doubloons when you hand in to Duke.
  • Ritual Skulls can no longer be sold to the Order of Souls or Mysterious Stranger, but will still yield 10 Doubloons when sold to Duke
  • Rag and Bone Crates can be found washed up on shores. These have no deadline on them, and can be given to Duke for 5 Doubloons.
  • When held, Cursed Cannonballs now emit a purple or green light
  • Sword swing distance has been reduced.
  • Improved Accessibility Options include more Toggle options to replace Hold actions.

So there you have it! A substantial new update with tons of new cosmetics, quality of life changes, and a chilling new Fort encounter just in time for the Halloween season!
