Guide to Siren Shrines
Secrets of the Sunken Kingdom await…
With the launch of Sea of Thieves Season Four, the Sirens’ underwater lairs are now fully explorable, including 6 new Siren Shrines. Here’s the complete Guide you‘ll need, covering What they are, How to complete each unique Shrine, and What rewards you can earn in the process.
What are Siren Shrines?
There are 6 unique Shrines, 2 in each of the major regions of the map, and they are now marked on your Map table. Sailing to those locations, you’ll see a blue shimmer above the water- the Shrine can be found by diving at this location…
Inside, you’ll discover a unique dungeon to explore with its own challenges. Some feature combat, others focus on puzzles; some involve diving deep, others traversing dry land platforming. What they all have in common is they contain new Coral Treasure (explained in ‘Why Enter a Siren Shrine’ below), as well as hidden journals to uncover.
We’ll be walking you through EACH unique Shrine, including:
- How to Enter the Shrine
- A General Description of the Shrine’s Unique Challenge
- Where to find its Breath of the Sea podium (explained in ‘Why Enter a Siren Shrine’ below)
- Where to find its Hidden Journals
Why Enter a Siren Shrine?
Commendations
Under the Bilge Rats page of the Reputation tab is a new section titled Sunken Kingdom, with a whole host of tasks that will reward you by unlocking new cosmetics. See ‘Commendations and Rewards’ below for details!
Coral Treasure
Throughout each Shrine you’ll discover new Coral encrusted varieties of Treasure. These include Gold Hoarder Chests and Relics, Order of Soul Skulls, and even new Merchant Alliance “Coffers” (Merchants’ items that are small enough to fit in a carrying chest). These are all worth more Gold and Reputation than their non-Coral variations! The deeper you make it through the Shrine, the better treasure you may discover.
Coral Messages in a Bottle
While voyaging above the depths, you may discover the new Coral Messages in a Bottle, marked by a distinctive blue colored glint. These will add a voyage to your quest inventory that simply invites you to explore a particular Shrine or Siren Treasury.
Once this quest is active, any crew that makes it through that Shrine can discover a new loot item: the Breath of the Sea. Think of these as suped up versions of Merfolk Gems- they come in increasing values of Sapphire, Emerald, and Ruby, and can be sold (for a very handsome return) to ANY Trading Company!
Unique Mechanics
Merfolk Storage Statue
How am I going to swim all this treasure to the surface one by one? Answer: You don’t have to. Find one of these Merfolk Statues with a large clamshell at their base, and each member of your crew can store Treasure items inside like a locker.
After returning to the surface, a merfolk with a clamshell will spawn, and when you choose to interact with it, all of your stored treasures will float up. Note: this is especially handy for leaving your ship unattended while diving. If it gets sunk while you’re beneath the waves, your treasure will stay safely stored until you return and interact with this merfolk at this specific location!
Siren Puzzle Statues
In various Shrines, forward progress is dependent on interacting with some Statues in the room. These statues come in three visual distinctions: one is holding a chain, one a sphere, and one a coral. If struck or shot, their other arm can be raised or lowered to either a High, Medium, or Low position.
Look around for a glowing mural on the wall somewhere, which will depict the statues in the positions they need to be, like entering the combination into a lock. Once ready, look for a much larger statue with a shell horn in its mouth. Strike or shoot this statue to “enter” your lock combination, and if correct, something will happen like raising/lowering water levels or opening locked doors.
Water Walls
See through windows/walls can be found at various points in the Sunken Kingdom, usually separating a room that is full of water from a room that is full of air. Water Walls that can be passed through will have a glowing coral bulb somewhere around its perimeter, which you must strike or shoot. Doing so will make the wall temporarily liquid, allowing you to swim right through.
Air Breathing and Respawning
At certain locations in the Sunken Kingdom, especially surrounding the exterior of a Shrine or Treasury, you’ll be able to hold your breath for longer than usual, allowing you to swim down far enough to enter the structure. Aside from this, when spending a long time under water, look for coral tubes emitting bubbles- swim above these to automatically replenish your air supply
Dying inside of a Shrine or Treasury will not usually send you back to your ship- instead you’ll respawn inside the Shrine at various room checkpoints as you progress. Interact with a Merfolk Storage Statue to return to your ship at any time.
Journals
The Hidden Journals inside each Siren Shrine tell the story of a different explorer discovering that Shrine. In order to get the Commendation credit for having read these journals, you’ll need to click the action button through each page!
Walkthrough of each Shrine:
Shrine of Hungering
Entrance: From the central mountain, face North (where the coral is glowing blue) and swim into a cave entrance marked by various skeletons
Description: Swim through a tunnel of sharks on your way to a large vertical chamber. You’ll need to climb to the top of this chamber in a combination of solving Puzzle Statues to raise the water level, using geysers as boosts, and good old fashioned climbing/jumping.
Breath of the Sea: If you have a Coral Bottle voyage to this Shrine, the pink coral podium containing the Breath of the Sea is in the final wide open submerged chamber, right next to a Storage Statue. You enter this chamber through a Water Wall inside of gigantic shark jaw bones.
Journal Locations:
- #1- Swimming through the tunnel at the very beginning of the Shrine, there’s a skeleton on the ground holding the journal in its hand about halfway through the tunnel
- #2- After using a Geyser to reach a higher ledge, the journal is on this ledge in a broken rowboat
- #3- While climbing up the structure, you’ll ascend a skeletal spine bridge and then a downed ship mast. The journal is immediately in front of this, among some wooden debris under a window.
- #4- At the top, take a right from the Water Wall inside the Megalodon Jaws and hop across to a ledge on the other side of the room. The journal is on the ground right next to a large decorative merfolk statue.
- #5- After exiting the Water Wall through the Meg Jaws, there is another Water Wall. The final journal is on the floor inside this Water Wall, and can only be read if you open the Wall first.
Shrine of the Coral Tomb
Entrance: Dive down to the Shrine facing WEST by NORTHWEST and you’ll find a Water Wall that can be entered.
Description: After dropping into a big cavernous pool, looking up at the high walls will reveal a glowing siren mural depicting three symbols (the Sphere, the Coral, and the Chain). The Shrine is completed in three steps, with each step requiring you to find 3 levers in the cavern and pull them in the correct order. The levers have a symbol next to them, and the mural on the wall depicts the order. After pulling all three levers in Step 1, more areas will become accessible, allowing access to three more levers for the same process in Step 2, opening yet more areas with more levers for Step 3. The levers associated with each step are roughly color coded around Blue Coral, Yellow Coral, and Red Coral, respectively. Finally, the water will rise, allowing access to the upper area of the Shrine.
NOTE: On the NORTH wall is a Merfolk Storage Statue with a path behind it leading to a Water Wall. This is an EXIT, and you can ignore it if you are not ready to exit the Shrine
Breath of the Sea: If you have a Coral Bottle voyage to this Shrine, the pink coral podium containing the Breath of the Sea is at the very top of the pathway you can access by raising the water level.
Journal Locations:
- #1- Once falling through the water slide into the big watery chamber, swim to the bottom to read the journal in the open next to the ammo chest, facing roughly SOUTHEAST
- #2- After activating the FIRST set of levers, a tunnel becomes accessible at the surface next to the Merfolk Statue containing a lever and the journal leaned against a rock.
- #3- After activating the second set of levers, in one of the underwater tunnels (with large red coral) there’s a journal on the right side of the tunnel
- #4- Once the water level has risen, there’s a side tunnel through an archway covered in teal coral. In this tunnel, on the ground next to a pile of skulls is the journal
- #5- Climbing up the pathway accessible once the water has risen, at the top the journal is leaning against a rock next to a limbless skeleton
Shrine of Ocean’s Fortune
Entrance: Dive down to the Shrine facing NORTH and at the very bottom, you can swim under the large wooden door and into the Shrine
Description: This Shrine is focused around manipulating pulleys and levers to move or rotate platforms around so you can can continually climb higher and higher. It’s divided into three chambers: the first involves multiple different rotatable/moving mechanisms until you reach a cave tunnel up to the second, which is much less vertical and simply contains several bridges and alcoves for treasure and leads to the third chamber, which has a single central pole from which numerous platforms extend, and it must be rotated at each platforming junction to reach the top.
Breath of the Sea: If you have a Coral Bottle voyage to this Shrine, the pink coral podium containing the Breath of the Sea is located in the Second of the three chambers, as described above. It is at the ground level, along the NORTHEAST wall opposite a large Maiden Figurehead affixed to the terrain.
Journal Locations:
- #1- On the bottom floor of the chamber you first enter, on the WEST wall on top of piles of wooden boards is the first journal
- #2- Near the lever that opens the iron-barred door, amongst rocks under green glowing corals
- #3- At the second capstan you rotate to move platforms, face NORTH by NORTHWEST and head towards the wall by the blue coral
- #4- In the same room as the Breath of the Sea podium, on the ground level to the NORTHWEST sitting on the edge of the wood.
- #5- High up in the final chamber, on the big slab of ship debris on the SOUTH wall, the journal is lying next to a small piece of blue-purple coral
Shrine of Flooded Embrace
Entrance: At the top of the underwater mountain is an upside down shipwreck. Swim inside the back of its captain’s quarters, and use the Action button to open the doorway, which opens into the Shrine’s interior.
Description: The concept behind this Shrine is simple: it’s entirely filled with water, and you need to balance diving down to grab treasures with managing your Air supply. The Shipwreck you enter from at the very top has an Air cavity and ammo crate inside, which is useful because you’ll be consistently attacked by Sirens while exploring this Shrine.
The deeper you dive, the more valuable treasure you may discover, and near the deepest points, you’ll even find Air tubes to replenish your Air supply. There are a few nooks and crannies containing treasures, including a chamber behind a Water Wall, and one inside the hull of another shipwreck.
Breath of the Sea: If you have a Coral Bottle voyage to this Shrine, the pink coral podium containing the Breath of the Sea is at the bottom most point you can swim, on the NORTH wall.
Journal Locations:
- #1- In the hull of the Shipwreck you enter in from the very top.
- #2- From the main top shipwreck, swim down the bow (front) and it collides with another upside down ship hull. Swim underneath this area and look up to discover a metal door in the shipwreck that can be opened into a small area where the journal is lying
- #3- Midway down, there’s a Water Wall to a dry alcove, the journal is on some stacked debris next to a small red coral, opposite from the merfolk statue
- #4- In the deep dark part of the lower cavern, there’s a shipwreck with a door that can be opened. Across from this on the opposite wall is a broken hull, the journal is sitting on a flat blue coral
- #5- At the deepest bottom area, the final journal is on a wrecked wooden hull leaning against blue corals on the NORTHEAST part of the floor
Shrine of Ancient Tears
Entrance: While diving down, face NORTH by NORTHEAST and head in the direction of a large split shipwreck. From the shipwreck facing the mountain, a Water Wall entrance can be seen.
Description: This Shrine contains a large network of explorable hallways and puzzles to solve. There is a large square central chamber with multiple paths off of it, including a circular hole to dive into, and multiple locked doorways. Because the puzzle is intricate, we’ve described how to navigate everything in detail below. Skip this if you prefer to solve the puzzles yourself.
Path 1: Climb the ladder in the SOUTHEAST corner of the large square chamber, and navigate high up along the walls until you reach a lever in the NORTHWEST. This will drain the water, making Path 2 usable.
Path 2: Dive down into the circular hole in the center of the room. Light torches in the Fire Room to open the doors, leading you back up to a room off the central chamber containing some treasure, and a lever to let you back into the chamber.
Path 3: In the square central chamber, step on pressure plates in all four corners to open the high doorway behind the waterfall on the EAST wall. In this Throne Room you’ll find treasures and torches to light.
Path 4: In the square central chamber, there are 4 torches to light in each of the 4 corners. Inside the room accessed in Path 3, there are 4 more torches to light. Lighting all 8 will open the doorway behind the waterfall on the WEST wall. Inside this doorway there’s immediately a cross hallway running north to south, and beyond this is a room with Mushrooms in the center.
Path 5: The cross hallway is part of a network of hallways all tied to a single puzzle. They each contain 3 unique aspects:
1. Locked Doorways with animal insignias on the floor. These doors are opened by finding 3 levers in that section of hallway with the insignia on them. You must pull all three levers in quick succession or they’ll lift themselves
2. Torches that need to be lit. The number of torches varies, but lighting all of the torches in each of the animal-insignia hallway sections will light a matching flame on Path 6.
3. Pressure Plates open panels on the walls, which may be empty, contain treasure, or even conceal switches.
Path 6: In the Mushroom room, there are two ways to proceed. Firstly, a doorway is locked behind lighting 4 flames in the room, each marked with an insignia (Butterfly, Turtle, Eagle, Crab). Progressing through this door requires completing Path 5, and contains some more valuable loot. To the NORTH is a lever, that will activate an elevator that leads to a one-way EXIT of the Shrine!
Breath of the Sea: If you have a Coral Bottle voyage to this Shrine, the pink coral podium containing the Breath of the Sea is accessed on Path 2 described above, down in the circular hole off of the Fire Room, accessed by lighting the torches.
Journal Locations:
- #1- On the ground level of the large square chamber facing SOUTHEAST is a stone table. The Journal is on the ground beside it.
- #2- When you drop into the circular hole from Path 2, on the stone table in the Fire Room is the journal.
- #3- On Path 5, in the Turtle Hallway section, the journal is in the SOUTHWEST corner path on the ground.
- #4- In the room with glowing mushrooms accessed in Path 4, the journal is leaning against the Crab Torch stone to the NORTHEAST
- #5- In the Throne Room from Path 3, the journal is to the right on top of a barrel
Shrine of Tribute
Entrance: Facing EAST while diving down, the entrance will be in front of a gigantic stone statue of an Ancient. In front of this statue is a stairwell down, and the door can be opened by activating a switch on the left side of the stairwell.
Description: This Shrine consists of a submerged square corridor of hallways surrounding a giant central chamber. You won’t be able to do anything in that chamber until you raise the water level using Puzzle Statues. The Mural with the Statue Solutions is seen right as you enter the Shrine, and the Horn Blower Statue is directly opposite the giant chamber entrance, but you’ll need to swim all over to find the three Puzzle Statues and pose them. One is in the narrow hallways, and two are found in the giant chamber.
Once the water level is raised, you can climb up and navigate around the upper perimeter of the chamber to find the final alcoves and secrets.
Breath of the Sea: If you have a Coral Bottle voyage to this Shrine, the pink coral podium containing the Breath of the Sea is found in the upper rafters of the large central chamber, accessed by raising the water. You’ll have to navigate around and hop across the back of the giant statue’s Throne to reach the alcove on the South wall of the chamber.
Journal Locations:
- #1- Upon entering the Shrine, stand at the glowing Puzzle Mural on the wall and face WEST by SOUTHWEST. The journal is on a stone across the room.
- #2- Swimming through the narrow hallways, you’ll find a corner in the SOUTHWEST containing an Air Dispenser. The journal is on the ground beneath it.
- #3- From the entrance with the merfolk murals, head north and take a right, then a left, another left, and a right as you pass through a sea of bright pink corals. There’s a stone shelf right beyond the pink corals with the journal on it
- #4- In the upper rafters of the large chamber, accessed after raising the water level, hop across the back of the giant statue’s throne to the WEST wall. There on a flat coral platform to the right is the journal.
- #5- After raising the water level in the large chamber, you can climb around the upper edges of the room. Here you will find 3 pressure plates that once all activated in succession will cause the giant statue to move backwards. This reveals a hidden passage in the floor beneath, and at the end of this passage is the final journal on the stone table.
