Guide to the Reaper’s Hideout
Sell items with greater reward, and greater risk
The “Reaper’s Hideout” near the center of the map has been built into a miniature fortress, and the Masked Stranger at its heart has become a hot spot for valuable loot turn ins. Reaper’s Chests can now only be delivered to her, and she’s also accepting a few other loot items. She doesn’t reward Reputation progress, but she gives out DOUBLE GOLD, so this hideout is about to become a battleground!
On top of all that, there are new Mercenary Commendations for delivering items to the Hideout, one of which is time limited to the duration of the Legends of the Sea event- you can read all the important details below!
Humble and Generous Gifts
The Masked Stranger is still accepting Gifts, and is the only one who will take them off your hands. Gifts come in two varieties: Humble (5 Doubloons) and Generous (10 Doubloons), and can be found washed up on beaches and inside of Fort Vaults. There are still some Mercenary Commendations to earn for selling these gifts or gifting them to other players, which you can learn about in our Gift Seeker Event Guide.
Reaper’s Chests and Bounty Chests
The tavern Bilge Rat is no longer accepting Reaper’s Chests, so you’ll have to hand them in at the Masked Stranger at the Reaper’s Hideout. Luckily, she’s upped the price to 30 Doubloons for these items, to make the dangerous loot more worthwhile. Reaper’s Chests are marked by a pillar of green and red light that can be seen across the map, and when you bring one aboard, other players can track your position on their map tables!
But that’s not all- a new Reaper’s Bounty Chest has been added, marked by a pillar of gold light, which you also must sell to the Masked Stranger. This chest is worth 25,000 gold, making it one of the most valuable items in the game!
BILGE RAT COMMENDATIONS
Added back in August, you earn 10 Doubloons for delivering your first Reaper’s Chest, 25 Doubloons after delivering a total of 3, and 50 Doubloons (and the title “Death Defier”) after delivering a total of 5.
Similarly, new commendations have been added for the Reaper’s Bounty chests. 10 Doubloons for delivering your first, 25 Doubloons for delivering your third, and 50 Doubloons for delivering your fifth. None of the Reaper’s Chest or Reaper’s Bounty commendations are time limited!
Double Gold Loot
The Masked Stranger will also accept a narrow list of specific loot items. She doesn’t reward any Trading Company Reputation, but she pays you DOUBLE GOLD for the items. These pieces of loot are:
Captain’s Chests
Villainous Skulls
Crates of Exotic Silks
Chests of Legends

BILGE RAT COMMENDATIONS
Deliver 20 Captain’s Chests to the Reaper’s Hideout (25 Doubloons)
Deliver 20 Villainous Skulls to the Reaper’s Hideout (25 Doubloons)
Deliver 20 Crates of Exotic Silks to the Reaper’s Hideout (25 Doubloons)
Deliver 1 Chest of Legends to the Reaper’s Hideout (25 Doubloons)
BONUS: Time Limited Commendation
Available only through the duration of the Legends of the Sea Update (January 15th through mid February), if you manage to complete ALL of the above listed commendations you’ll receive 50 Doubloons and the title “Tribute Bringer”
