🏆 So much is happening in the GoodDollar ecosystem! Here’s what we’re celebrating this month.
⚡️ EthCC and EthBarcelona Recap
Last month was full of conferences that provided great opportunities to connect and exchange ideas with innovators in the web3 space. GoodDollar attended both EthCC and EthBarcelona, where the team got to speak about the potential of crypto UBI and free money as a public good at sessions, workshops, panel discussions, and much more.
At EthCC, the team participated in sessions alongside colleagues and leaders in ReFi and CoFi at Schelling Point, Funding the Commons, Celo and Chainlink’s Co:OPERATE à Paris, and Impact Blockchain Conference. During Schelling Point’s morning circle, GoodDollar Executive Director and Founder Anna Stone discussed the impact of blockchain in propelling financial inclusivity. EthCC (Ethereum Community Conference), organized by Ethereum France, is one of the largest and most notable web3 events for those in the Ethereum ecosystem.
🌎 Announced the GoodCollective Direct Payments Pilot
ICYMI, GoodDollar, Appropriate Design, and the Climate Collective teamed up to support sustainable environmental practices in local communities, giving rise to the GoodCollective. Both a platform and pilot program, the GoodCollective directly pays individuals segmented UBI (Conservation Basic Income) for their climate-positive services.
GoodCollective dApp is in development with our partner, dOrg, while the Direct Payments Pilot is in motion with our implementation partners, DeTrash/Neduc and Silvi. GoodCollective goals for the near future include broadening our scope by expanding into additional segmented UBI capabilities. To achieve our mission, we’re actively seeking funders to support climate stewards and implementation partners with established community relationships that provide ecosystem services.

💰 HaloFi Savings Challenge Recap
GoodDollar partnered with HaloFi in early July to implement a savings challenge where users could earn interest rewards as high as 98.12% APY. The challenge was an exciting opportunity to allow users to engage their G$ while building sound financial habits at the same time.
Out of the 1,163 players who participated, 574 made it to the end of the game, making them eligible to withdraw their deposits, awarded interest, and a congratulatory NFT. The savings challenge saw a total of 24,342,774.02 G$ deposited into the challenge pool!
Overall the savings challenge provided valuable insights into the community’s enthusiasm to do more with their G$, and GoodDollar’s excited to make it happen! If you missed last month, don’t worry. You’ll have another shot at the challenge on August 16th. Keep a lookout on our socials for more details!

🛠️ Fund Public Goods Hackathon
Are you a builder who’s passionate about the transformative potential of crypto UBI? Now’s your chance to expand on the capabilities of GoodDollar’s open and decentralized UBI infrastructure by participating in the Fund Public Goods Hackathon.
Partnering with Funding the Commons, GoodDollar is sponsoring $2,000 USDC + 1,000,000 G$ in prize bounties for the virtual hackathon. Top teams who excel in the hackathon will have the opportunity to further develop their projects through the GoodDollar <> Celo Prosperity Program.
Builders are encouraged to develop practical applications and features that end-users can engage with. Bounties inspired by GoodDollar will focus on building to support G$ UBI for real-world utility and the GoodDollar ecosystem.
GoodDollar’s protocol has established itself as the leading global UBI infrastructure with over 500,000 users worldwide. The next step in our roadmap is to expand the UBI ecosystem by creating opportunities for people to use their G$, facilitating a movement towards a sustainable economy.
The virtual hackathon runs from August 11th to September 1st. Teams can register on Buidlbox and locate GoodDollar to view our bounties.

Across Both Celo and Fuse Ecosystems for July
- Number of Unique Claimers To Date: 575,545
- Monthly Active Users in July: 106,000 MAUs
- Transactions in July: 162,207 total transactions, with 101,600 transactions on Celo and 60,607 transactions on Fuse
- UBI Claims in July: More than 2,000,000 total monthly claims, with 1.2M occurring on Celo and 817,200 occurring on Fuse

🚀 Welcome Kenya to the GoodDollar Community
Kenya’s first GoodDollar chapter kicked off by announcing Laboso Wambogo as the inaugural Kenya ambassador. Laboso steps into the role with experience leading the Laboso Foundation, where Laboso advocates for local farmers. The group completed their first onboarding session, welcoming the first cohort to make up GoodDollar’s Kenya community.
💻 GoodDollar Nigeria 🤝 Celo Nigeria
In July, the two teams hosted a 2-day campus event at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU). Huge crowds showed up for both the “Unlocking the Future of Finance” session and the “Community Code Jam” workshop.
💡 Wallet Workshop with GoodDollar Cameroon and AISEC
GoodDollar Cameroon teamed up with AISEC to host a 1-day DeFi wallet workshop, where they held demonstrations and 1:1 tutorials to teach community members how to set up their GoodWallet and claim G$ UBI for the first time.
🌳 Introducing the GoodCollective to the Cameroon Community
Last month, the GoodDollar Cameroon community held a meetup alongside GoodDollar’s one and only Bertrand Juglas, introducing the community to the GoodCollective. ICYMI, the GoodCollective, is a platform and pilot program designed to provide direct payments to environmental stewards, verifiably safeguarding and preserving their local habitat.
📚 DeFi Education For All
Esther, a member of the GoodDollar Nigeria Community, graduated from SheFi’s immersive 13-week educational program covering the web3 and crypto ecosystem. Through GoodDollar, Esther was able to complete season 8 on a full scholarship. Enroll in season 9 through the GoodDollar community, and start your path towards DeFi education.

🏦 The GoodDAO is the governance protocol that governs the GoodDollar protocol, empowering community members to take an active role in determining its future.
Here’s everything that’s happened over the last month.
📈 Increasing UBI Distribution on Celo
[GIP 14.2], which calls to increase GoodDollar UBI distribution on Celo, was published on Discourse on July 11th. [GIP 14.2] proposes to amend [GIP 14.1] to accelerate the distribution of G$ UBI on the Celo blockchain.
Data suggests that the number of daily active users claiming on Celo has increased to over 80,000 MAUs, growing at 3x the rate of Fuse. Due to the rapid growth, adopting and fostering a robust UBI ecosystem on the Celo blockchain is essential.
