Welcome to the continuation of the Google Cloud Adoption for the Enterprise, From Strategy to Operation series. We’ve come to the end of Part 1.

Let’s wrap up this section with a quick checklist of some of the considerations we’ve covered:

What is your target state?
Which cloud provider(s)? Single cloud or multi-cloud?
Org structure and operating model?
Skills and training.
Do you have an open source strategy?
How are you eliminating your existing commercial vendor licenses? Do you understand your existing enterprise license agreements (e.g. Oracle ULA), and the implications of exiting them? (Are you likely to get audited? Are you ready for that?)
Do you have a data strategy?
What will do you do with workloads that cannot be easily migrated and/or decommissioned? Do you have a SaaS option?
For workloads that will continue to require commercial licensing, do you have a BYO license option? Will you get heavily penalised for moving to vCPUs in the cloud? Do you need any bare metal servers in the cloud?
Can your cloud strategy help you to achieve a data centre exit strategy? Have you established to inflection point where exiting from your own data centres to colo facilities will be more cost effective? Do you have a lease that needs extending?
Do you have a mainframe? Do you have a migration strategy? If you need to keep it, where will you host it? Or will you replatform or refactor it?
Do you have a ZTNA strategy, to complement most of your workloads now moving to “outside the perimeter”?
Can your cloud, SaaS and ZTNA strategy help you establish a bring-your-own-device strategy?
Do you expect to do much lift-and-shift? If so, will you migrate to GCE?
