My Role : Course participant

Signing a letter of commitment in the Municipality of Lipari (Sicily -2017)

Background and my mission

I joined this course to improve my leadership skills with a view to take my own organisation down the road to Self Management.

Being on this course, however, makes me part of a larger mission of promoting Self management more globally and thereby create more happiness and innovation in workplaces and in the world.

My responsibilities

Sharing my own experience as a leader with other participants and learning from their very different perspectives and experiences obtained in very diverse cultural bakcgrounds will add important dimensions to my understanding of practical Self management. I also commit to share whatever insight I have to the possible benefit of others on the course.

My commitments include

  • Participating actively in the scheduled Online course and contributing in a balanced manner with a view to enrich the discussion
  • Being true to Self management principles when contributing to the course, including any new learning underway
  • Being positive towards any new ideas or comments from by my course peers
  • Contributing as much as possible to the weekly group work and being ambitious with my personal work
  • Providing constructive feedback as requested — or in relevant cases also when not requested
  • Actively promoting the establishment of an Alumni network post course and sharing readily with members related to this network
  • Being humble towards the great challenge it is for all to convert to Self management
  • Sharing as much as possible of the learning and spirit from the course with my own organisation with a view to spark internal support and dialogue on Self management.

My Challenges

  • My time available for the course will never be enough for following up on all the interesting ideas and links provided by other course participants
  • I have very little/no experience in the area
  • I might forget asking for help when faced with challenges I do not know how to meet.
  • Transmitting the insights and ‘why’ of this course to my colleagues and management staff and work will be essential if we are to transform the organisation
  • I can improve on recognition of the contributions of others — I too often take this for granted and forget to appreciate.

My Neighbourghood

  • My interactions are primarely with other course participants and the coaches.
  • A secondary — but in the long term very important group — is my present work colleagues Management team.
  • A broader network of organisational leaders in Denmark and abroad should also be considered important for fulfilling the mission

Success of my participation

The success in my role as course participants is related to the sum of interactions with other participants.

The more I manage to apply self managing principles during the course — the better I will be able to obtain a practical level of understanding of the underlying.

An important measure of succes is also the extent to which my experiences can be helpful for other participants.
