Beyond Bikes to a Connected Mobility Future
Ask any of the 70-plus people who work at Greyp, what we are building together, and you may be surprised at the response. The answer is not bikes. We at Greyp are powering forward — and beyond bikes — to build out a connected future.
Don’t get us wrong. We are proud of what we have achieved by making bikes. After all, much of our hard work was recognized when our newest model, the Greyp G6.2, capped a series of accolades this year by winning the Eurobike 2019 award as the best electric mountain bike. But take a closer look at why we won and you will see how our bikes showcase who we really are — a high-tech company with innovation in our DNA. The Eurobike prize jury officially made the G6.2 the winner for its “degree of innovation, design and functionality.” It praised how the bike “features an impressive array of digital gadgetry integrated with extremely sophisticated engineering” and said the G6.2 “seamlessly fuses digital and analog — with its multiple sensors, onboard cameras and constant Internet connection.”
That is why we carried out our recent digitalized equity fundraising and why we are so grateful that more than 1,000 supporters invested over 1.4 million EUR in Greyp in answer to our rallying cry to build out a connected mobility platform. All our new backers join the Greyp family alongside major shareholders such as Porsche and the Camel Group, as well as world-class partners like T-Mobile. Our broader vision for Greyp has always been about the connected future. Anyone who has ridden a Greyp bike understands that the software inside is just as important as the hardware.
The digitalized equity offering helped us reach an army of new supporters across Europe and beyond as we traveled the world to explain our vision — a vision of zero ownership, zero emissions and zero accidents.
Bikes, Blockchain and Beyond
Our focus on building out a connected mobility platform is a natural evolution in our history. Founded in 2013 as a spinoff of Rimac Automobili, the maker of the world’s fastest hypercar, we focused on electric bikes. Now, with the results of this equity round, we are expanding our footprint beyond bikes to provide technology that supports other OEMs and their various forms of mobility. The future is connected. It isn’t just about cars or bikes, but about whole networks that bring people together in sustainable and collaborative ways.
And that collaboration includes working with other innovative companies in new areas of technology such as blockchain. We have teamed up with two blockchain groups, slock.it and the Energy Web Foundation (EWF), to develop an automatic payment system for IoT vehicles. After we carried out proofs of concept use cases earlier this year, we envision. These kinds of payments will begin as machine-to-machine transactions, such as tolls, rentals, and renewable charging services, and will include cryptocurrency options.
The connected mobility future is possible because we share a vision with our supporters and partners.
Our CEO Mate Rimac put it like this: “The future of sustainable mobility is in the advancement of zero-emission electric vehicles as well as the adoption of a shared economy. Innovative technology, including blockchain and smart vehicles, will have a big part in this future, allowing for secure machine-to-machine communication. We are excited to move forward with the wonderful community that has grown up around Greyp bikes”
Thanks for coming along for the ride.
