Developments from around the ticketing world

2021 is starting to look better and better. With a clear finish in sight for pandemic and subsequent lockdown regulations, we are gearing up for a period of catching up on all the opportunities which were postponed in 2020.

Surely 90+% of you have caught the stock-price-pushin’ news of several pharmaceutical companies announcing 90+% succes rates of COVID vaccine test results.

Subtle stock-ish pic for you.

This is obviously a big deal. First and foremost for the continuation of humanity as a whole, but also for its subgroups who enjoy going to live events and experiencing things comfortably close to other flesh-covered skeletons.

With the vaccine announcement, a mask-covered sigh of relief echoed throughout the event industry. While it’s too soon to make any real projections on physical events, it does drastically improve 2021’s outlook.

One notable example is this clip of prominent dutch physician Diederik Gommers, ensuring the viewers that they will be able to attend the popular (and very much socially not-distanced) festival Lowlands next year.

Getting events back on their feet is not just a matter of brushing the dust off some speakers and opening the doors.

Relying on ticket scalpers as insurance? How about some DeFi?

Most event organizers have taken a significant financial hit, making the consideration for setting up new post-COVID events a more delicate process than it used to be.

Especially risk-averse large capacity organizers or venues will want to go over their budgets twice before committing to new dates and events. This is a valid point, but the idea that this confidence will have to be restored with the help of scalpers is a scary thought. The last thing we want is for opportunist resellers with dollar signs for pupils to become larger parts of the event cycle.

Not to worry though, we’re working on a solution:

Stay tuned.

This month your friendly neighbourhood monopolists LiveNation gave a hold-my-beer-meme-worthy masterclass in dubious business practice, which kicked off with the news that Ticketmaster was considering a vaccine verification element within their attendance cycle. Along with other supposed innovations, this was presented as part of their SmartEvent system, which supposedly showed a preparedness for the new state of events.

However, this prompted some serious pushback and concern, including from our own CEO.

Ironically, just days later, the news broke that Ticketmaster would be fined for failing to protect their user’s data, exposing millions to potential fraud. A huge misunderstanding, surely.

This unfortunate development was followed up by a round of criticism about the Smartevent ‘vapourware’, claiming it did not contain any new or actually functional elements.

And to go full circle, TM needed to clarify and walk back their announced plans publicly:

Now, it’s hard to discern whether this was all an attempt at wooing shareholders gone wrong or a case of ‘any press is good press’. Either way, it’s hard to believe that anyone is thinking more fondly of the old Maestro now.

Real quick other news: GUTS Tickets has been nominated for a Dutch Blockchain Award.

Voting has closed at time of publication, but we will inform you of a potential win, or otherwise loudly demand a recount on Twitter.

Another reason to be bullish on next year’s live events is the recent advances in on on-site rapid testing for COVID.

While great news for festivalheads in Europe and the US, this news is already slightly irrelevant for some parts of the world, like China, where they have gone back to partying, and Australia, where Corona seems to be little more than a drink again.

New artists, new shows

A whole heap of new artists have sold tickets for GUTS for the first time over the past month, as the amount of ticketed livestreams has been rising, with new ones being announced regularly.

One example is the (unfortunately named) Irish band The Coronas, who have started selling tickets for their Christmas show, ‘Nowhere We’d Rather Stream’, on December 12th.

Tickets are sold by GUTS and ‘pay-as-you-like’, to make sure all fans can attend. This humble approach has already gotten some positive press:

This show was one of many newly announced livestream shows, ticketed by GUTS. Here are a few notable other ones, which you might not have heard about yet.

Locked and live — A series of shows from 12(!) artists.

A little earlier in December, DI-RECT is doing another one of their award-winning livestream shows, which have already given so many fans something to look forward to during the lockdown period.

The last show of the year will take place on Friday December 11th, from the iconic Kurhaus. Check out the announcement video below, and go here for tickets and event info.

Like I said, busy times!

Ticketball — the GET strategy to taking over the ticketing industry

Blockchain developer Kasper channels Fat Jonah Hill to spread wisdom, feel better about his COVID-kilo’s and lay out the road to success for GET.

If you have been following us for more than five minutes, it should not come as a surprise that GET Protocol is what boomer investors would call a ‘‘disruptor’’ in the ticketing industry. I feel it is fair to say that we are making solid progress in our mission of providing transparency and other never-before-seen elements to a market that so desperately needs them.

That being said, I don’t think our current mission has been laid out as clearly as it has been this month when our blockchain developer Kasper Keunen published his latest blog.

The actual moment Kasper pitched the idea for his latest blog.

The blog speaks for itself (and contains lots of video’s!) so I’ll allow it to introduce itself as well. Here’s an excerpt:

The story of Moneyball

The movie Moneyball tells the story of Billy Bean the general manager at the Oakland Athletics around the year 2002. His approach to managing his team flipped traditional baseball-thinking on its head — changing the sport forever. This was achieved by rethinking the foundations of managing a team from first principles.

At GET we like to say we are rethinking ticketing. But what does that mean? Well, in short just like Billy, we don’t intend to compete with the status-quo ticketing giants on their same turf. To switch it up a little I will be using clips from the Moneyball movie to provide context and colour. The clips in this article are set the correct moment as to save you time.

The first step of tackling any issue is identifying what the true problem. Often unimportant context cloud the view on the underlying issue. Enough talk, Brad take it away!

Important news about the liquidity mining program

We have been following along closely to levels of liquidity on Uniswap for the GET token, and we have been satisfied with the results thus far. The current mechanism has proved itself, now we’ll fine-tune when necessary.

The current levels of liquidity provide a decent opportunity for traders to trade GET, and we are happy to reward liquidity providers for this.

Hence, the Liquidity Mining program for GET will continue at the current level! Rewards in the shape of GET tokens will be periodically sent out to liquidity providers until at least the end of the year.

Click on the image to find out how you can participate and start receiving your rewards!

We will keep monitoring liquidity levels and decide on further continuation at in the course of next month.

What else to expect next month

December is a time for reflection, giving and plotting to take over the world. We will be doing all three in abundance.

Looking ahead at 2021 blog

In keeping up with tradition (meaning we also did this last year), you can expect an XL update blog in December, where people from all sides of the protocol will share insights and expectations of the year that lies ahead.

This will include such topics as: adoption, clients, tokenomics, NFT’s, DeFi and more!

The Q4 token burn event

Though the event industry has been under duress, there are still tickets being sold and thus there are tokens to be burned! Take a look at the Q3 report to get in the mood.

The end of the year STRAW lottery

More straws were given out this month to liquidity providers for the GET utility token on Uniswap.

As was announced in the previous blog, there will be a prize draw somewhere towards the end of December, where five lucky addresses holding STRAWS will be chosen to receive a prize.

This initiative is a cherry-on-top to show appreciation for our liquidity providers, who of course also have received liquidity mining rewards in the form of cold hard GET periodically since the beginning of October.

Lottery process
We will draw 5 numbers at the lottery, each representing the token ID of a winning STRAW NFT.

(You can see the currently rewarded STRAWs, their tokenID’s and corresponding addresses here.)

Prizes
There will be a variety of prizes to be won, :

Prize #1: 10,000 GET
Prize #2: 2 VIP tickets to a GET-ticketed event in 2021 (event TBD)
Prize #3: GET & GUTS swag pack XL
Prize #4: Invite to our next (in person) monthly team meeting
Prize #5: A 30-minute ‘life-coaching’ zoom call with our business developer Sander. (Who coaches whom is up to you.)

All in all, plenty to get excited about! We are more than ready to dive into the new year with our improved system, growing client portfolio and (secret) plans for the future.

We’ll be back in a few weeks!
