Mid-Month Habit Check-In
Letting the Sun In
On September 1, I started this habit. Here’s how it’s going.
I wear shorts and a t-shirt. I sit in the noonday sun for 15 minutes a day (I did miss two days of sunning due to rain). I use sunscreen on my face and wear a hat.
Honestly, I don’t really know how much vitamin D my body is generating from the sun. But I’m enjoying this little exercise. I look forward to starting my lunch break by going outside and relaxing. My dog usually follows me out and suns herself, too. I can feel the hot rays on my exposed arms, legs, and feet, almost like a light massage. My normally pale skin has turned a light caramel color. I love the feeling of zoning out and letting the world just pass me by.
Today, though, something felt different.
These are the last few days of summer, and I can feel a change already. I still enjoyed my few minutes of sunshine, but the rays didn’t feel as intense as they were just a few weeks ago. There’s a new breeze in the air. Leaves are starting to turn and fall.
I’m going to continue to sit outside, weather permitting, every day, even if I have to wear a coat. The past few winters in South Jersey have been rather warm so it’s certainly do-able.
The next time I get a vitamin D test, I’ll be sure to report the results.
Stay sunny!
