The cab on its Happerley farm being watched over by Pedigree Gloucesters

On June 13 2017 a London cab sets off from a Gloucestershire farm where Happerley started, on Leg One of a five year mission to create a more honest and transparent food industry across the UK.

Crewed by Happerley’s Provenance Team (and the occasional celebrity chef!) it will meet food producers, restaurants and retailers, challenging them to prove their provenance and #namethefarm.

It aims to discover and celebrate Happerley Provenance Champions.

The tour will be broadcast from the back of the taxi via a dedicated blog, Youtube, Twitter, Facebook Live and Instagram.

Our Story

Farmer Matthew Rymer teamed up with neighbouring farmer, hotelier and meat processor, Clifford Freeman, to prove the concept by applying passports to their Pedigree Gloucester Cattle beef. Following Happerley’s growth, an advisory board is being set up to steer the scheme into the ownership of a producer cooperative in 2018 to enshrine its neutrality and independence.

How Does Happerley work?

Happerley empowers consumers to trace all food ingredients back to the farm by providing a means to secure and validate food provenance through the food chain.

We do this by (1) certifying food businesses (auditing and publishing their food supply chains back to primary producers), and (2) by applying block chain technology to passport food outputs from farm producer level through the food chain for the benefit of every agent, and empowering the consumer to know the journey of every ingredient they buy.
