Submission Guidelines

If you are a Heart. Soul. Pen. writer, I am so glad you are interested in submitting. This magazine is to showcase the writers of the HSP women’s writing collective. Your work needs to be shared with the world and this is the place to do it! To submit, you will need to:

• Sign up to join Medium.com. It’s free.
• Once you are signed up, I will add you as a ‘writer’ on my end. You will then be able to submit to HEART. SOUL. PEN.-Zine. (Note: If you are not signed up with Medium, I cannot add you as a “writer” to HEART. SOUL. PEN.-Zine.)
• Please edit the piece you want to submit for spelling, grammar and format.
• Submit your story through Medium.com (see below).

Here is a step by step of how to submit a Medium story or draft:

1. Open Medium.com
2. Click on your Profile Picture in upper right (after you are a member)
3. Click Stories in the drop-down menu
4. Choose Drafts or Stories
5. Click on the title of your story and add your title
6. Click gear icon in upper right and click ‘Edit Story.’ Cut and paste your piece from Word into Medium.com or write your story.
7. Include an image. Unsplash.com is a great source for free photos. You can also use your own photo.
8. Click on 3 little dots
9. Click ‘Add To Publication’
10. Tick the box that says: HEART. SOUL. PEN. (NOTE: You will only see this option if you have been added to the writer list. Please email me once you have signed up for Medium.com and I will add you.)
11. Click Select and continue.
12. A green box will appear and you need to hit Submit to publication to finish submitting your story.
13. On the story preview page, you will be given an opportunity to choose hashtags. Consider: family, parenting, self, writing, midlife, women, life lessons, etc.
14. Once your story has been submitted, it will be reviewed by me and then published in the Zine. That’s it!
