Back in October 2017 I wrote a post called “Where are my Gold Backed Tokens?” to answer a question that was asked by people who had supported the HelloGold Token Sale.

Since then the world has slowly become aware of HelloGold, our mission and the launch of HGT. More to the point, we started getting a load of enquiries about using our Gold Backed Tokens as a stable coin.

In response, we redesigned the old contract, relaunched it under the new name GOLDX only to realise that the old post was now out of date.

Why is GOLDX different?

Those who have followed us on our journey so far will know that we distribute GOLDX as a reward to those who have supported us. The amount of GOLDX distributed is currently really small (last month we shared less than a gram between all the HGT holders) but should grow significantly each month.

No actual transfers…

If we used a traditional “airdrop” method, the transactions’ gas fees would eat up most of the rewards. Instead we use a set of formulae to calculate your entitlement based on how long you have held your HGT, how much HGT you have, etc…. this means that block explorers that are looking for transfer events may make mistakes unless you specifically ask them to check your GOLDX balance.

So how do I actually check my balance??

Etherscan

There are two ways to do this on Etherscan.

1. Follow this link to the GOLDX read smart contract page and enter your address in the box in row 10 (balanceOf), then click on Query. Please note that the really big number you see is based on fractions of a GOLDX. To find out how much you actually have in whole numbers of GOLDX you should add a decimal point inserted 18 digits from the right.

Actual value is: 0.000161679213232261

2. Paste the following in your address bar and put your address after the “=” https://etherscan.io/token/0xeAb43193CF0623073Ca89DB9B712796356FA7414?a=<your address here>

If you use Metamask you will probably see something like this:

So sad - thought I had 0.0001 or more….

Metamask rounds tokens to three places. However, if you use Metamask with MyEtherWallet (or MyEtherWallet with any other method) you can see your tokens properly.

MyEtherWallet

I have a selfie taken with Kevin and Taylor of MyEtherWallet at Devcon 3. They look fantastic but I look seriously bloated which is why the photo is buried away and you will never see it.

Also looking fantastic is the MyEtherWallet interface. Select Send Ether and Tokens, then simply enter your address (or chose your key source such as Ledger, Metamask, etc).

On the right of the screen you should now see this little pair of buttons.

Hmmm…. no GOLDX 😡

Click the button on the left (Show All Tokens) and a list of tokens appears, some with numbers (those above) but most looking like this :

What should I do now?

Clicking on a line not only loads the balance but also remembers that token so that it will be loaded next time. You will see the word Loading flash before your eyes (so fast I couldn’t capture it) and then …

Ok. Better than nothing I suppose….

Ethplorer — updated balance available

Ethplorer is aware of the existence of GOLDX in your account, it will check your GOLDX balance each time you make the request. This means that the balance shown will include any charged management fees and recent GOLDX reward allocations.

Click on the dropdown…

Please do note that Ethplorer still derives most of its information from transfers so the number of holders shown below is completely inaccurate.

Parity

Parity supports GOLDX automatically. They just call it GDX because they only allow three letters.

GDX ?? They won’t allow GOLDX 😡

Metamask Users

Try this page : https://goldendave.github.io/

Enter your address and click the button 😎

There are other cool wallets out there that we may not have contacted. Most may require some or all of the following information to add GOLDX as a custom token. Please let us know if you are having any difficulties.

Address : 0xeAb43193CF0623073Ca89DB9B712796356FA7414
Symbol: GOLDX
Decimals: 18

Thank you for your continued support for HelloGold, HGT and GOLDX!
