1. HOW TO CONNECT WITH PEOPLE YOU ADMIRE

+ I simply created a habit of using one hour per week to speak with someone I admired.

+ “There will always be someone smarter than you. There will always be someone faster than you. There will always be someone stronger than you. That means that your only real job is to be the best at connecting with other people.” — Julien Smith

+ Messaging someone to say you’re a fan of their work might get you to the door. However, if you 1) identify a problem they’re facing and 2) offer real solutions to that problem, you’ll get invited into the room.

+ Zig Ziglar got it dead right — “You can get anything you want out of life as long as you help other people get what they want.”

Applying some of these principles have been quite enabling.

2. PICKING A LIFE PARTNER

+ … 90,. If you live a long life, that’s about the number of years you’re going to spend with your current or future life partner, give or take a few.

+ when you choose a life partner, you’re choosing a lot of things, including your parenting partner and someone who will deeply influence your children, your eating companion for about 20,000 meals, your travel companion for about 100 vacations, your primary leisure time and retirement friend, your career therapist, and someone whose day you’ll hear about 18,000 times.

+ … if someone went to school to learn about how to pick a life partner and take part in a healthy relationship, if they charted out a detailed plan of action to find one, and if they kept their progress organized rigorously in a spreadsheet, society says they’re A) an over-rational robot, B) way too concerned about this, and C) a huge weirdo.

Not too long ago I was telling friends that I think it’s interesting that we write a business plan for starting a business but we don’t follow the same process when we think about marriage. We just faith it.

Writing a business plan doesn’t keep a business from failing but it increases its chances of survival because it causes the entrepreneur to think rigorously about it.

Well, its the same thing about marriage, writing a plan helps you outline the vision for the marriage, your core values, how you will raise your kids, how you will manage finances and so on.
Please by all means as your transition out of single when you transition if you will transition don’t be a simpleton in planning your future with your partner, Be robust.

3. INCREASING YOUR STRESS CAN MAKE YOU HAPPIER

+ In short, trying to master a new skill, or striving to accomplish a huge goal, will definitely mean more stress now — but it also means greater happiness later.

+ When you accomplish whatever you planned to do today in pursuit of a longer-term goal, you feel good.

+ Make your goal extremely specific.
+ Make your goal personally meaningful.
+ Make your goal a positive goal.
+ Set your goal — then forget your goal.
+ Focus not on the goal, but on the process.

+ Why the Secret to Success is Setting the right Goals — John Doerr

I have shared this piece a few times with friends.
It is a quick watch on why OKRs (Objectives and Key Results) are crucial to success in life and in business.

He taught the founders of Google this framework when they were still starting out in their garage. And today Google is a Mega Corp.

Watching it again, I went back to my company’s OKRs for the year and it inspired me to re-write it in a more inspiring way that makes me wake up and run.

Was a strong refresher for me!
Reminded me to never take a passive emotional state for anything I’m asking for.
Reminded me to want it strong and put every emotional desire forward.
Reminded me to be expectant.
Reminded me to believe I’ve got it already.
