This year has been filled with controversy, rap beefs, clout chasing, and many comical moments. Therefore, the team at Her Outlette thought the last Friday Round Up of the year should feature some of the highs and lows that were simply unforgettable.

I mean, who could forget all of Kanye West’s crazy theatrics or the epic Cardi vs Nicki Minaj beef? How could we minimize the epic match between Serena Williams and Naomi Osaka? Or not revel in the epic success that is Michelle Obama’s book and tour for her autobiography, Becoming? All of these moments and more truly made 2018 pop off on the timeline consistently. There hasn’t been a dull moment once this year.

I have to say I’m honestly looking forward to the next trending topic that I scroll across because 2018 set the bar very high.

Happy New Year Loves!

Monet Victoria

Class clown

Male: Plies

RikkieJ: From his pink sombrero to the random social media videos, Plies has been serving our sophistiratchet souls good laughs all year long.

Lil Rell *Honorable Mention*

RikkieJ: From his supporting role in a sitcom to getting his very own show, this Get Out star is on the rise. If you aren’t huge on comedy, but you want to see him work his comedic magic, you can also check him out in the Netflix thriller birdbox.

Female: Liza Koshy

Meliabia: With over 16 million YouTube subscribers and 17 million IG followers this Forbes 30 under 30 lister is killing the game. I remember watching her on vine until I fell asleep cracking up. She recently became the co-host on MTV’s TRL (2018) and started her own youtube series “Liza on Demand” (2018). Don’t say I didn’t tell you. She wins!

Biggest Drama Queen & King

Queen: Nicki Minaj

Monet Victoria: I view Nicki as one of the most successful female rappers but was blown away by all of the theatrics this year over Cardi B and Safaree. I knew Nicki went to performing arts high school but her performance this year took the cake. She literally laid everything out on her radio show and over twitter. Whew Chilayyy.

King: President Trump

RikkieJ: The drrraaammmaaa. Every time I listened to the news or scrolled social media this year, I saw something about a controversial statement or beef our President had brewing.

Kanye *Honorable Mention*

RikkieJ: Do we really need to explain why?

Glow Up Of The Year

Joe Budden

Delmarshae Walker: This has been a very successful year for Joe Budden, from his hit podcast — “Joe Budden Podcast”, to Love and Hip Hop and then getting engaged to Cyn Santana. The Glow Up has been real and we are all so proud of you Joe!

Best New Act

Ella Mai

RikkieJ — She made our hearts go ba-doo, boo’d up then blessed us with an album full of toe tappers.

Most Controversial Statement Of The Year

“Muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby” -Roseanne Barr

Meliabia- After Roseanne took aim to Valerie Jarrett, former advisor for Barack Obama, one Monday night, she lost her TV Show and was also dropped from her talent agency. The president of ABC Entertainment immediately released a statement saying, “Roseanne’s Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show.” Hope it was worth it, Rose!

Entrepreneur Of The Year

Morgan DeBaun- Blavity

Meliabia- As if Blavity as a whole isn’t inspirational enough, Morgan DeBaun (Founder) was featured on Entrepreneur’s “50 Most Daring Entrepreneurs” list because “…she raised $6.5 million from investors like Google Ventures and Comcast Ventures to expand Blavity’s empire, which now includes 21Ninety, a lifestyle site for women of color; Shadow & Act, a Hollywood Reporter-esque trade; and Travel Noire, an Instagram brand that Blavity acquired and turned into a bustling travel-and-leisure resource.”

Celebrity Clique We’d Hang With

The Smiths (Will, Jada, Willow, Jaden, Trey, Grandma, Step-mom)

Meliabia: Do you have IG? Do you watch Red Table Talk? Will Smith’s IG is goals on its own, and then when the ladies busted out with the Red table talk spitting that knowledge. Oh, I def need to be apart of this family. And the way Trey calls Jada his bonus mom!! *TEARS* real tears!!

Biggest beef: Who was #bigmad this year?

Drake vs Pusher

Meliabia: This beef went very far and I almost saw Tupac vibes. You can’t mess with people’s kids and this beef went south fast. I don’t know if we ever really had a real winner in this game of thrones, however both sides defined hip-hop beef for our generation. This was quite the contrast to the Meek and Drake beef, which was so high school. Thank you, next! Want more? Check out Drake’s interview with Lebron and Pusha’s interview with Joe Budden.

Jacquees vs Everybody *Honorable Mention”

Meliabia: I know the biggest issue was when Jacquees did the Ella Mai cover for “Boo’d Up”, which I cannot find anywhere anymore, but here’s “Trip”. J does so well on covering other people’s songs that fans have literally started a petition to keep him from doing it anymore. While this isn’t exactly a real beef, it is hilarious to me. I believe this is a real beef with the industry and who gets what songs…. Different topic to get into.

#Relationshipgoals

Michelle & Barack

Delmarshae Walker: I recently read Michelle Obama’s bestselling book, “Becoming”, and I gained a different perspective on this power couple’s relationship. They start out as friends and Michelle actually mentored Barack during his internship as a summer associate at the law firm where she worked. Throughout that summer they became close friends and eventually developed a romantic relationship. The first two years of their relationship was spent long distance while Barack finished his law degree at Harvard and Michelle lived in Chicago working. This phase reminded me of my current long distance relationship — distance can make things more challenging. But even though odds were high, they remained together and eventually got married. I love the way Barack loves and respects Michelle. They both help each other accomplish their goals and most importantly they “grow together” and not apart. They are the true definition of “relationship goals” in my opinion. He became the first Black President, and a big part of his win, was because of Michelle. #Goals

Chrissy & John *Honorable Mention*

Meliabia: This is relationship goals brought to a whole other level upon the arrival of their baby boy. #Familygoals Chrissy is one of the funniest noodles on the internet. As a fellow half-ass comedian it’s so beautiful to see that us goofy kids can find someone who accepts us as we are and completes us in other forms. This is what John is to Chrissy. Throwing in a couple kids so that dressing up as Jasmine from Aladdin on a regular day seems normal, is just the icing on the oatmeal cookie!! This family is relationship goals. I remember when Chrissy was on Ellen and Ellen was talking about John and she literally had no idea what he was doing in the industry. I have the same problem in most of my relationships, so like, I get it. We talk about other stuff and just continue to support one another! *Smiles*
