Happy Friday, beautiful people! Today is the last day of the work week, but the first day for you to live out your life in the manner that YOU want to. Whether that requires making changes to your personal brand or choosing to be alone over settling for a relationship that is not exactly what you want, I challenge you to chase after the person you want to be and the person you know you can be, letting go of any doubt or shame keeping you from it. Now dive into our compilation of events and happenings below, all curated to help you stay up to date on what happened in the world this week. Today is your day, go get it.

Just Smile,

Rikkie J

A Woman for Prez

Jasmine Mitchell: Guess what guys! It’s almost time for that sexist, racist, xenophobic, orange thing to leave the White House! *pops champagne* With that said, we’re now looking at the fresh crop of candidates vying for the Oval Office next year. Among that number are six radical women (so far) shaking things up. The lineup includes; Senator Kamala Harris,Senator Elizabeth Warren, Senator Amy Klobuchar, Senator Tammy Duckworth, Representative Tulsi Gabbard, and Senator Kirsten Gillibrand. I’m excited because it means that our government is starting to truly represent our population. The United States is, after all, majority female.

RiRi and LVMH…Yes please

RikkieJ: Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton LVMH, the parent company of Fendi and Dior, is working on a deal with Rihanna to have the singer’s new fashion line backed by this fashion conglomerate. This team up has not been confirmed by either party, but multiple sources have confirmed that the deal is in motion. This would be LVMH’s first launch of a new brand since 1987. With claims that diversity in the fashion industry lacking, this would be a MAJOR development. Rihanna has already proven the power of her brands with the success of her Fenty Beauty collection and Savage x Fenty lingerie collection, I am sure this will just be another amazing accomplishment to add to her resume.

If you’re Brown, GET DOWN!

Kellé Whitney: This week, I opened my phone to see headline after headline stating Chris Brown was detained in Paris for rape. RAPE!!! Now, we all know about Breezie’s poor choices back in 2009. But rape? What’s so incredible about this situation is that shortly after news broke out that Brown was detained, a woman came forward and denied his involvement claiming he wasn’t even there! But it was too late. The torches had already been lit and the angry mob was charging forward on the FUCK CHRIS BROWN bandwagon. I love that in today’s climate, victim shamers are rightfully being called out. But let’s not turn a blind eye to facts. #Metoo is shedding a crucial light on rape culture and charging those responsible. But let’s not be so quick to join the angry mob just because a hashtag is trending. Also, y’all notice how quick the news media is to tell us “Chris Brown is in a police standoff,” “Chris Brown grips hands around woman’s neck,” or “Chris Brown detained for rape,” but then never strongly follows up with headlines of what actually happened? It just goes away…suspect.

More Zuckerbergs & Paris Hiltons

Monet Victoria: There has finally been a major transition in the age of wealthy Americans. The super rich are getting younger. I’m curious to see how this impacts the economy looking forward in 2019 and beyond.

World’s Most Innovative Places

Delmarshae Walker: I find that I daydream a lot, fantasizing about all the places in the world I would live. I think it would be so fascinating to pack a bag, pick a random country and just move my life there and start fresh. The movie, Eat, Pray, Love, also has a lot to do with this inspiration. If you’re looking for a new move; check out the World’s Most Innovative Countries.

Chapter “Will It All Come Tumbling Down?” of the R. Kelly Saga

RikkieJ: The powerful documentary released by Lifetime earlier this year, Surviving R. Kelly, has resulted in an uproar and the response keeps building. It was revealed last week that RCA, R. Kelly’s longtime record label, has dropped him from the label. With numerous celebrities speaking out against him and his record label saying goodbye, it looks like society may not forgive and forget this time.

Old School Vibes

Monet Victoria: I’m not into the new Future album and I’ve been waiting for the Dreamville project, which is finally here! I had to fall back on the oldies. I’ve been listening to this dope ’90s R&B playlist to pass the time and to give myself slight breaks from Middle Child.

Broken Harts

Kellé Whitney: Y’all remember the Ferguson protests in 2014, and that viral picture of a black boy with tears in his eyes hugging a cop in riot gear? He’s dead now. He, his two moms, and 5 siblings died after one of the mothers drove the entire family off a cliff in California last May. Broken Harts is an investigative podcast, by Glamour, of the Hart family: two white women and their six adopted black children (two sets of three siblings).

Twerking on a Boat

Delmarshae Walker: Cardi B recently released her “Twerk” video with City Girls and there’s been a lot of controversy behind the ladies’ dance moves. The Real discussed the topic this week and the main question posed was; is twerking an acceptable form of dancing in our society?

What are airplane seatbelts for anyway?

Meliabia: This Colombian airline is looking to take all the seats out of their planes in order to squeeze more people on the flight and decrease costs. I wouldn’t be opposed to this. A $20 flight to ATL, I just have to stand the whole time, sign me up!

No Carbs. No Prob.

Meliabia: For the first time in my entire life, I made something I did not expect to like, Spaghetti Squash. I just started liking squash circa 18’, but I made this simple dish in the oven and it was absolutely delicious. Plus, I ate it Sunday, Monday, AND Tuesday. Meal prep galore !!!
