What’s on our minds…

Barley shortages —

Delmarshae Walker: Sorry beer lovers, barley shortages from climate change could mean less beer worldwide. Might this be the tipping point to get us to change behaviors??!!

Meliabia: No more Beer? Climate change to cause global beer shortage, study says — CNN; If you have an iPhone, you receive periodic news alerts, this one actually caught my attention because now you are messing with my life. People think climate change isn’t real, are you willing to bet that on your beer? I am not. We have to do better to avoid this shortage!!!!

Paul Allen —

Delmarshae Walker: Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen has died at the age of 65 from cancer. Allen started Microsoft (LinkedIn’s parent company) in 1975 alongside Bill Gates. Allen was also a major philanthropist, donating money to areas such as brain research, a number of environmental conservation projects, and other arts and education initiatives.

Canada —

Rikkiej: This week Canada became the first industrialized country to legalize marijuana. Don’t mistake this as a green light to purchase and cross over into the US, marijuana is still illegal in the United States. It will be interesting to see how this will hurt or help Canada’s economy. The world will be watching.

10 Million Dollars —

Meliabia: Okay, maybe not that much but investors are pulling out the big guns for the Florida governor’s race. Billionaire Tom Steyer has donated 2 million dollars towards Andrew Gillum’s “Florida Forward” action committee. Specifically because of Gillum’s support of impeachment of the current president. CNN will host a debate between DeSantis and Gillum Sunday, October 21, at 8p.m. ET/7 p.m

Diddy and Cassie break up

Meliabia: Whoaaaa!!!! This news threw me for a loop. As a single, professional, thriving young lady I cannot even fathom being with someone for 11 years. PERIODT. Let alone without a marriage and it ends up “not working out”. My heart is here for you, Cassie. Also, can you write a book about how you did it for all those years?!?

Khashoggi’s disappearance/murder

Monet Victoria: This story breaks my heart and there are so many details that we will probably never know. I also don’t trust that anyone will do their best to solve this.

The Death of Song Yang —

Jasmine Mitchell: Y’all. I haven’t been more captivated by a New York Times investigative report since the one they did on Jameis Winston back in 2014. This new article follows the story of a Chinese sex worker, Song Yang, who worked the corners of Flushing, Queens. The authors, as always, investigate what happened on a super objective level and present it to you in an interactive online experience, allowing you to form your own opinions as they guide you through the evidence. Save this for a lunch read, cause it’s gonna suck you in!

Brexit —

Kellé Whitney: Remember Brexit? That one time, about 2 years ago when the UK decided to part from the EU? Yeah, well things just got a bit more complicated in this “Hollywood” divorce. Back in the 90's the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland created an invisible border in a peace deal. El problemo is that the Republic of Ireland is not a part of the UK, but Northern Ireland is. Ireland and the UK have had a (very, very) bloody past. World watches and waits to see if the two can work things out. But let’s not forget why Europeans voted for Brexit in the first place.

Your favorite rapper’s rapper, your favorite athlete’s athlete —

Kellé Whitney: You know King James is doing his thing out here. In his latest endeavors outside of the court, LeBron is the co-producer and host of HBO Sports’ docu-series, The Shop. In a recent episode Drake stopped by and shared his side of the Pusha T/ Kanye Beef. I watched the whole episode and all I can say is…damn. Is Kanye canceled yet?

What we’re reading…

10 Secrets to Success and Inner Peace —

Meliabia; Currently reading 10 Secrets to Success and Inner Peace; This is a mind blowing book, for people have chosen to consciously be on their life path. The ten “secrets” for success and inner peace presented here apply whether you’re just starting on your path, are nearing the end of it(You should always be furthering and exploring yourself). Dr. Dyer urges you to view with an open heart. By doing so, you’ll learn to feel the peace of God that truly defines success.

What we’re listening to…

Pretty Big Deal —

Delmarshae Walker: Pretty Big Deal by Ashley Graham is a new podcast that dives into conversations about culture, beauty, business and owning who you are. Ashley is one of the first supermodels to break body barriers and is the first plus size model to grace publications such as Vogue, Sports Illustrated, Self, Elle, Glamour, and more! So long body shaming; embrace who you are ladies!

The Joe Budden Podcast with Rory & Mal| Episode “Steven Victor” —

Monet Victoria: I made the mistake of listening to this while trying to work and this interview sucked me in. We’ve heard Drake’s side and we’ve got blips of information on this rap beef from Kanye. Pusha finally gets to voice his side no holds barred and I was soppin’ all of it up. He’s so real and unfiltered. This interview really showcased the difference between entertainers and rappers. I’ll be giving Daytona another listen this weekend.

Ella Mai —

Delmarshae Walker: Currently playing Ella Mai’s new album on repeat. This album is perfect for cool, chill, fall vibes.

Foster the People —

Meliabia; I revisited their 2017 album (Sacred Hearts Club) with the hit song “Sit next to me”; which reminds me of my high school good times, rocking alternative music with the windows down speeding in my 96 nissan maxima. Key songs to look out for include “I Love my friends” “Static Space Lover” and “SHC”. Fun up beat vibes to keep you lifted and thriving.

Summer Walker’s Debut Album —

Jasmine Mitchell: It’s officially cuffin’ szn so I know you guys are looking for some good R&B tracks to set the mood. Summer Walker’s debut album, Last Day of Summer, dropped today and I’ve been looking forward to it since they released the track list a few days ago. If you like SZA and Ella Mai, then Summer Walker is definitely a good wave.

What we’re laughing at —

Monet Victoria: Currently cracking up at this list of revelations that Buzzfeed posted. Some of the things I just now realized recently too. I love when they post compilations like this.

Saturday Night Live —

Meliabia; Every night before I go to bed I always watch one of the compilations from SNL characters breaking character and laughing at themselves. Not only are they just hilarious, but watching them try to keep their laughs in sends me over the edge!!!

What we’re doing this weekend…

Detroit, MI —

Delmarshae Walker: Traveling to The D this weekend to throw a birthday party for my boyfriend of almost two years! Follow my Instagram @shaebutta3 for videos/photos. It’s going to be a party!!!

Trevor Noah —

Meliabia: Trevor Noah will be in DC this weekend and a friend asked me to go with him friday night!! I am super excited, again I watch him all the time before bed mostly his “Between Takes” not so much his show but I’m super interested in going to see him in stand up. He better be funny.

What’s in our shopping carts…

Paleo Munchies —

Monet Victoria: I’m still doing my paleo diet and I have found my new favorite snack. These tortilla chips are grain free and absolutely delicious. I’m looking forward to trying everything the brand has to offer. They specialize in grain free foods that are made with coconut and cassava flour. I also love this family’s mission statement.

Mortgage —

Meliabia: I started renovating a house, and I’m in the load process and it is stressful. Spending most of my money on the renovations as I am coming to the end of things I am barely able to afford water at this point. My mortgage is in MY BAG!!

A Flight To Aruba —

Jasmine Mitchell: Airfordable is my secret weapon for travel. It’s basically layaway for flights. This is my second time using it (first time was to Dublin, Ireland) and I just made my last payment this past Monday. I cut it pretty close this time since my flight leaves next weekend, but I’m still in that bih (*winks at Monet*). Sign up using my code to get a $25 credit towards your next flight.

What we’re cooking…

Chicken Curry Soup —

Delmarshae Walker: This week I’m making delicious, warm and cozy chicken curry soup. I love this recipe because you can easily throw all the ingredients into a crockpot and within hours this mouth watering meal is ready and lasts for a few days!
