The Friday Roundup is a weekly collection of current news, events, and culture that is curated by the members of Her Outlette. It’s served up fresh every Friday morning and goes great with coffee. So, pour up and scroll down for the latest edition.

With summer coming to an end,*cues Drake’s Summer’s Over Interlude*, I’ve been more inclined to get my sh#t together. From updating my wardrobe with fall favorites to practicing more self care and embracing the chill vibes of the season, this week has been a busy one.

With all that going on, I can’t forget that this very blog you’re reading launched this week. It’s been a learning process that continues to teach me new things everyday and I hope you stick with us as we learn and grow.

Scroll down to check out what caught our eye this week and cheers to the weekend!

XO, Jasmine

What’s on our minds…

Colin Kaepernick —

Jasmine Mitchell: He’s finally getting his due with an arbitrator sending his grievances against the NFL to trial and of course this dope Nike campaign that he’s the face of, which ran during the NFL’s season opener last night.

Brett Kavanaugh —

Monet Victoria: Kavanaugh’s confirmation is in process, so what does that mean for abortion and future cases being brought to the supreme court? See where he stands on some of these issues.

Kellé Whitney: It’s fair to say, democrats aren’t holding back their questioning. Sen. Harris hit him with the ‘I just think it’s funny how…’”

UBER —

Meliabia: UBER Australia and New Zealand will start blocking people who are nasty to drivers from using Uber, or have less than four stars. So play nice, States may be up next!

Childish Gambino —

Kellé Whitney: Childish Gambino, back at it again with yet another culture shaking, socially conscious music video, Feels Like Summer. It’s a great piece of art that gives summer vibes from an “around the way” neighborhood. Could you spot all the animated celebrity cameos?

Op Ed-gate —

Kellé Whitney: Just when you thought Trump’s White House couldn’t get any wilder. POOF! This happens. An op-ed, allegedly penned by an anonymous White House senior official was published. Apparently s/he claims to be part of an inside resistance to thwart the president’s agenda. If this is true, I guess some would see it as a small sigh of relief. But the fact that members of his own administration see him as an incompetent lunatic is just more evidence that this guy isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. #ThisisAmerica

Ayanna Pressley —

Kellé Whitney: A historic moment in Massachusetts’ primary election occurred when councilor Ayanna Pressley won the Democratic primary. Why is this a big deal? If she wins, Pressley will become Massachusetts’ first African-American woman in congress. Ok ladies, now let’s get in formation!

What we’re reading…

See Me by Nicholas Sparks —

Meliabia: If you are anything like me as a hopeless romantic — murder mystery lover, this is the book for you. Suspense takes over as this love story unfolds. I recommend the audiobook version using your library card to listen while on your commute.

The 5 Love Languages by Gary Chapman —

Delmarshae Walker: Between busy schedules and long days, expressing love can fall by the wayside, so I’ve decided to spend some time to make sure I continue expressing love everyday.

What we’re listening to…

The Best of Drake —

Monet Victoria: Lately I’ve been feeling Drake, but like a mix of old and new. I’ve been listening to the Drake station on Spotify and it’s given me great reminiscent vibes. Check it out here:

What we’re laughing at…

Delmarshae Walker: Tristen Thompson sucking the life out of Baby True’s neck! Let’s just say he was showing True a lot of love

Jasmine Mitchell: Lil’ Uzi Vert getting a bible thrown at him during his concert.

Monet Victoria: Lindsay Lohan giving it her all at her new beach club in Mykonos.

Kellé Whitney: One of the most adorable comedians out, Caidyn Bennett, perfectly lays out the struggle of finding new friends. I feel you Caidyn, I feel you!

What we’re doing this weekend…

Congressional Black Caucus Week ( D.C.)—

Meliabia: CBC Week Kicks off this weekend in DC. This is the epitome of why most young black professionals move to DC. It’s a week full of free happy hours, events, conferences, and showing the African American presence in our good ol’ Congress. People from all over the country come to enjoy the festivities; think Political Homecoming without having to be Political or correct.

One Musicfest (Atlanta)—

Jasmine Mitchell: I became an ambassador for One Music Fest this year and earned a free 2-day pass, so I’ll be going to that on Saturday and Sunday. The lineup is crazy! I’m excited to see H.E.R.,Goldlink, DVSN, Kelis, and the Old School Atlanta hip hop set with Youngbloodz, Kilo Ali, Ying Yang Twins, Eastside Boyz, and Trillville. Full lineup and tickets available here: https://onemusicfest.com/.

What’s in our shopping carts…

Keto Diet Essentials —

Delmarshae Walker: I’ve decided to start back on the keto diet which essentially is a low carb, high fat diet. My first attempt at the keto diet a month ago (lasted about 3 weeks with no cheat days) I lost 10 pounds and noticed an immediate change in my body. I felt more energized and confident. To kick off this week I’ve been eating mostly fish, leafy greens, fruits and drinking at least 20oz of water per day. If you need quick keto meals check out this Trader Joe’s grocery list. Your body will thank you! :)

What we’re cooking…

Quick, Delicious Salmon —

Kellé Whitney: I’m always on the lookout for a quick, delicious meal! One of my go to favorites is oven baked honey glazed salmon. This mouth watering dish only takes 15–20 minutes to make and is literally fools proof! It’s easy for all cooking levels.
