Within the last year, the Hexagon UX community welcomed the opening of four new chapters — Boston, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, and Belo Horizonte — and launched an education grant to offer budding UXers support in attending conferences and workshops.

We asked our chapters to share what they’re most proud of in 2019, and looking forward to this year. Read on for the highlights.

Hexagon UX Boston

Boston’s UX community had some outlets for networking, but no proper focus on mentorship or guidance for those beginning their UX careers.

“Forming the Boston Chapter of Hexagon UX brought a sense of excitement and connectivity to those seeking a place to fit in and grow,” says Araxie Miller, UX designer and co-lead at the Boston chapter.

“We’ve gotten commitment from more than 100 members, have co-leads from a range of backgrounds and experiences to provide perspective, and our meetups are collaborative and welcoming to all those interested in UX”, Miller adds.

Hexagon UX Tokyo

Standout moments for the Tokyo chapter have included bilingual (Japanese and English) workshops in ethnography and discovering one’s inner leader. “The joining of Yukino Kohmoto and Dorota Tisnek as co-organizers has also been a highlight,” says chapter lead, UX designer Chelsea Hostetter.

“We’re looking forward to growing our events, and focusing more on mentorship,” she adds.

Hexagon UX Los Angeles

Since launching in early 2019, the Los Angeles chapter has hosted four events, and laid the foundation for its growing community.

“We’ve met and built relationships amongst some truly wonderful local UXers,” says UI designer and chapter lead Adriana Bautista.

Los Angeles is planning to kick off its mentorship program this year. “And we’ll continue to offer events around exciting themes — in hopes that we can build on the community that began taking root over the past year,” Bautista says.
