Neel kept knocking and screaming.
A watchman came out. He was a bald man, shabbily dressed. He was chewing paan masala, that Neel could smell from a distance.
Neel said, I have come to join AI Max.
Watchman walked up to him casually and said, AI Max “Woh to bandh ho gaya.” (the company has been closed.)
Neel saw birds circling his head. He left his cushy job at a multinational and shifted to Mumbai. He did not expect this. He had heard that these kind of things happen in Mumbai. But he had never thought this would happen to him.
He has been duped. May be that is why Sid called him to meet at a Starbucks, and not at his office. Sid looked like a decent person. Who knows? You can’t judge a person just by looking at the face. He told himself that when Sid told him to focus on only one thing, he should have understood then itself.
Neel now realized why Sid was not reachable on the phone all morning. Neel cursed himself for being so stupid. The whole selection process was conducted on Skype. He did not meet anyone else but Sid. All the time, he kept thinking it was cool but this was not cool at all. He should have insisted for an interview in the office premises.
But Sid met him on Saturday. Sid did not take any money from him.
“Why would Sid do this? For fun? Could someone have asked him to do this?” Neel started thinking.
