“Yagi-sashi” is raw goat meat
In Japan, we love to eat meat raw. Thin slices and pieces of raw fish and/or meat are called “sashimi (“sashi” is a way of saying chopped): fish , shells, chicken (“tori sashi”), even horse (“basashi”).
Even though we love raw meat, “yagi-sashi” is only eaten in Okinawa prefecture. I had it once several years ago in Okinawa. It was red and fresh looking, but very gamy. It was eaten with grated ginger to reduce the smell, but was still gamy. However, Okinawans prefer to eat it as they think it is good for their health. They say that good goat meat is domestic (not imported) and fresh (not frozen), so it doesn’t smell bad. Next time when I have a chance, I want to go to a good goat meat restaurant.
