YouTube is the second most visited website on Earth, second to Google alone. But then YouTube is also part of Google, and that should be reason enough. If it is not, then bear in mind that YouTube processes more than 3 billion searches per month. Google gets visited over 89 billion times per month
Google processes over 8.5 billion searches per day! You can check these stats by simply entering the search phrases, “how many searches does google get per month”, or “how many searches does youtube get per month” into your browser.
The keyword “YouTube” receives around 185 million searches per month, that is around 6 million searches per day as seen below (Using Keywords Everywhere), and that is in the USA alone! I’m pretty sure that by now, you have reason enough to turn your Medium stories into YouTube videos.
You will also be rather amazed at how super easy this is to do. That is why you might want to read to the end because I will show you how to do this. I will include a sample video to give you a better idea of the kind of YouTube videos you can create with Medium stories.

Just a few tips, before we move on to the “how to create YouTube videos with your Medium stories”. Try using longer search phrases. Directly describing your Medium story with YouTube video tags. But we’re not going to get into the whole YouTube video ranking here.

For the purpose of this demonstration, I have actually turned one of my Medium stories into a YouTube video. Just like anything else SEO related, it’s all about strategic keyword placement to get your YouTube video ranked. Or shall I say your Medium story?
As you can see below, literally a few seconds after uploading the video to YouTube. This video is ranking position one on YouTube for 5 search phrases directly related to writing and making money with Medium through affiliate marketing! But ranking a video is the easy part, maintaining the ranking position, is not so much. But we will get to that.
The stats you see above are from two YouTube video ranking tools I use, called VidIQ and Tube Buddy. These free tools are available through the Medium story on YouTube video ranking below. Let’s take a look at how to create your YouTube video from a Medium story.
Create a YouTube video with Medium stories.
Use another free tool called Canva, or if you prefer, Lumen5. You can use both of these free tools to turn your Medium story into a YouTube video. In this case, and for the purpose of this demonstration, I used Canva to turn my Medium story into a YouTube video.
Simply click on “video”, as illustrated above, and then on “YouTube video”. It will open a new page with a blank video template. Now I am going to leave the creativity to you. Get to know your way around Canva. Then use “snippets” from your Medium story as video text.
But you also want to use some text from your Medium story to create your YouTube video description. And don’t forget to refer to your Medium story URL that should be included in your YouTube video description. Your goal is to get YouTube viewers to your Medium story.
As seen above, an example of a Medium story I turned into a YouTube video. Notice how the primary topic and search phrase are used right at the beginning of the video title, “Writing And Making Money On Medium With Affiliate Marketing!”.
You already have all the content you need for your YouTube video, the video title, description, and video tags are right in front of you. All your Medium stories you have already written. All you have to do is get to know your way around Canva.
You can select from video clips to music clips, pictures, text style and size. All the tools you need to create your video will be visible in the tools menu on the left-hand side inside your free Canva membership. I know I’m just giving you the basics, but I’m doing that on purpose.
Why? Because when you have the basics, and you figure out the strategy then you will never forget how to do that. It’s like learning to fish, instead of just being handed the fish all the time. My aim is to offer you content marketing strategies you will remember.
And the best teacher you could possibly ask for is you! No one else can teach you anything, quite as good as you can. Trust the process, but more importantly. Trust in your ability because you got this, and you can do this. Just take your time, no rush. Pay attention to your targeting and search phrase placement.
YouTube video sharing to feed the algorithm.
Ranking a YouTube video is the “easy” part, maintaining that ranking position is quite another task. You need views, and responses to “feed the YouTube algorithm”.
That is why your video might rank position one on YouTube today, and position none on YouTube tomorrow. But YouTube also provides you with the sharing tools to do so.
Just share your video to all the social giants as provided by YouTube, by simply clicking the “share” button. But with Facebook, you can also choose to share to groups, pages you manage, and your Facebook feed.
A great way to “convince YouTube of Facebook likes”. Is to share your Medium story turned YouTube video to your Facebook feed. Then from your Facebook post, you share to groups and pages. This way, the shares to groups and pages will count as “Facebook Likes” in your video SEO results.
Just as you would with your Medium stories, share your YouTube video far and wide. That way you can now attract more readers to your Medium stories through YouTube, and Google when your video starts ranking with our favourite giant, Google!
