Here is my personal list of reasons that make me publish in publications and not publish individually. As an aspiring writer taking their first steps, I have found these practices very helpful in getting you off to a smooth start.

1. They Will Cut You Off

Yeah, you heard me right! You will get feedback or rejection. Sometimes you need to just stop and take yet another look from a different angle at your content quality, you may not notice, but it’s very easy to compromise quality for quantity when one idea after another comes up and you really want to share them ASAP! Some publications take this very seriously.

Let’s see for example how ILLUMINATION’s guidelines state this.

If we deem your piece doesn’t suit the standards of our publication, we will return it to you with feedback on why and how you can improve it next time.
Submission Guidelines: Illumination Integrated Publications

Of course, this does not mean that you should submit your poorly written stories to publications and wait for line-by-line analysis with recommendations for improvement, in any case, treat the publication editor’s time with respect and try your best before submitting.

And if you feel strong enough, you can challenge yourself by submitting your stories to The Writing Cooperative with its super-strict and quality-oriented rules.

Even if you don’t plan to publish in any of the publications, read their guidelines and submission requirements as they are a great study on how to maintain a quality-focused content strategy.

It’s like going to a company interview without looking for a job, just to test your might.

2. They Know When To Press Publish

When I first started writing, I didn’t know when to post, and are there any effective tricks, phases of the day, or the right day of the week to post? Even as I began to understand my niche and the best time to publish, I found it very difficult to resist hitting the publish button on Friday midday. So, stop challenging yourself when you don’t have to.

Focus on your content and strategy.

Delegating publishing saves you the hassle and allows the publisher to decide when to publish, as it always has its finger on the pulse of its audience and knows best when it will be most interesting to publish.

3. Take Your Sandbox Time

When publishing a publication, it’s always a good idea to take some time and do additional reviews of your masterpiece while it’s being reviewed and published by the editors. In my experience, it usually takes 12 hours to 5 days for your paper to be reviewed and published. So it’s time to take a closer look at your story once or two.

When publishing without publication, there is no delay between pushing the Publish button and being public for your audience.

4. Guaranteed Views

For some reason, you may find that you don’t have enough views and reads, or sometimes any of them. This can be a very frustrating experience that every single writer-publisher can go through.

Posts have thousands of hundreds of followers, and your content, if it’s relevant, will hit the mark and show you’re relevant faster than if you tried to do it yourself.

5. The Right Audience That Seeks You

The most important thing for me, when I started to write, is to provide valuable content for people in my niche. It’s important to be seen by the right audience. Publications bring readers and writers together, so choose the right publication, read their stories, check the authors of this publication, and decide for yourself whether your content and you personally belong to this audience or not. They already categorize readers so you can easily connect with them just by selecting the right publication, so don’t hesitate!

Hope this will be helpful for you and your team and will let you focus on important things!

Don’t forget to share your experience in the comments below.
