“You didn’t grow up driving…you figured it out.” — (Gary Vaynerchuk)

We are all on this journey together. And to keep up with others we don’t have to compete with them instead we can observe what others are doing and improve gradually.

There is so much to learn from this creator community. They all come up with some great content ideas and brilliant content practices.

As we are on Medium and wanted to learn more about writing, I will share those smart strategies concerning writing only but they can be used or implemented anywhere in your content journey.

Be Pro-active. Be There. Be Everywhere.

“If you live for the weekends and vacations, your shit is broken.” - (Gary Vaynerchuk)

This is the first and foremost thing I observed from the top content creators or from the top writers on Medium I follow.

They show up every day. No matter what. No weekends, nothing,

Or we can say they schedule/automate their posts, tweets, blogs, or, content in a way which represents their pro-activeness and eagerness to show up daily to keep up with the increasing amount of content which gets uploaded on the internet.

One of the top and ever-growing content creators I follow on Medium, LinkedIn, and, Twitter i.e Niharikaa Kaur Sodhi uses Hypefury to automate her content.

Many top writers on Medium like Tim Denning & Varun Khadri post daily on LinkedIn and Twitter and share with us some insightful nuggets.

Key Takeaway: Scheduling or Automation of your content is the key.

Break down your content into 64 pieces.

“Smart work will never replace hard work, it only supplements it.” - (Gary Vaynerchuk)

This is a smart strategy and I used to observe it from many different content creators I follow and praise.

One such creator or entrepreneur I praise deeply is the one whose quotes I am using in this blog to give you context. Yes, he is that hard-core CEO of VaynerMedia — Gary Vaynerchuk !!!

He has this blog on his website — How To Make 64 Pieces Of Content In A Day where he shares the tips and techniques to break down your single big-form content into pieces to create a new piece of content out of it which can then easily be shared across your other social media accounts.

I have also seen many creators turn their blog’s key content/pointers into informative Twitter Threads. It is the one thing I am looking forward to focusing on doing more than anything else.

Key Takeaway: Create one big-form content. Break it down into pieces. Share it on other platforms.

Engage with your community/audience as much as possible.

“The reason I was able to grow my business was that every day, after producing 30 minutes of wine television, I spent 15 hours a day replying to every single person’s e-mail and every single person’s Twitter reply.” — (Gary Vaynerchuk)

The one thing which separates top creators from 99% of us is their attitude towards their readers, audience, and/or community.

They don’t just post their stuff and forget it (like most of us). But they try to reply to every comment they get or at least read their comments to squeeze something out of it.

And that is when we as readers or audiences of some top creators feel involved and connected with them.

We have to remember that everything we create or document is ultimately going into our reader’s or audience’s feeds and they are the real clients of our work.

Key Takeaway: Love your content BUT get engaged with your end users as well.

Your personal experiences are the best topics/ideas.

“No matter what you do, your job is to tell your story.” — (Gary Vaynerchuk)

Most of the time we spend our valuable time searching for that perfect topic to write on or create content on BUT forget the best source of all the best ideas or topics.

And that source is nothing but our personal experiences and stories.

And who else knows our stories better than we do? So, this can be the easiest to look into and get some hot topics out of the oven.

Try to remember your good days, bad days, those little moments of joy, or that unforgettable phase of your life. And write it down.

We tend to overthink who cares or resonates with our boring story or experience but there is also an equal probability that people might relate to your story and praise you to finally bring it up.

And all the top writers or content creators already knows this and try to keep their content around their personal experiences.

Key Takeaway: Your personal experiences makes the most liked content.

Follow some techniques to manage your content.

“Time — the one asset none of us are ever gonna get more of.” — (Gary Vaynerchuk)

There are many writers or content creators on the internet who follows or believes in certain concepts, techniques, or, principles.

And I believe you might have also come across various techniques such as the Pomodoro technique, Pareto Principle or 80/20 rule, Parkinson’s Law, and, many others.

What these techniques or principles do to our minds is purely amazing because it gives us a sense of belief, a sense of management, and, a sense of motivation.

And top creators don’t run away from these techniques but instead learn them and apply them in their daily practices. That is what makes them top, I guess.

Key Takeaway: Get involved in some life-changing techniques and experience the change.

Play the numbers game.

“List, list, O, list!” ― William Shakespeare, in Hamlet

The world is full of numbers everywhere. There is an infinite number of articles which are listicles.

And top creators or writers unsurprisingly know this fact and use it to their advantage (in a good way).

They mostly (if not all) write blogs with some specific number in them to appeal to the readers that you are going to get these N number of points to read.

And our complex human brains also wanted to read only those articles which has some numbers in them OR some exciting amount in them. There is an interesting article on The Psychology of Listicles as well one should read.

There are many top writers on Medium I follow who prefer to keep numbers in their headlines. You can go check their profiles to believe it yourself.

Key Takeaway: Breaking down your content into numbers or points makes sense to both writers and readers.

Bonus 🏆 : Read as much as you want to write.

“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.” Dr. Seuss

It is as simple as it can be. The more you read, the more you extract new concepts and tricks other writers used, and the more it allows you to understand how other writers write their blogs.

The same goes with any other form of content such as audio or videos, the more you listen to podcasts or the more you watch videos, the more you learn.

And there is a sea full of quality content on Medium as well as on other blogging sites from where you can spend your time and energy to produce something valuable.

Key Takeaway: Read more to write more.

And to summarize what we have learned till now,

  1. Be Pro-active. Be There. Be Everywhere.
  2. Break down your content into 64 pieces.
  3. Engage with your community/audience as much as possible.
  4. Your personal experiences are the best topics/ideas.
  5. Follow some techniques to manage your content.
  6. Play the numbers game.
  7. Read as much as you want to write.

Hope this blog helps individual creators or writers to know some smart strategies to work on which are until now used by those top writers or creators.
