One of the greatest weapons that you can have is a strong personality that can convince people to think the same way as you do.

In this article, I will summarize what Niall Cassidy mentioned in his book, “The Art of Influencing Anyone”. In his book, he mentioned the ways that can assist you when trying to convince others about your ideas, convince clients to like your products, and so on.

To be a good influencer, you need to do the following

Appearances Deceive

In the current world that we live in, the biggest tool to convince others is the appearance, the fancy words, and the exciting talks that never fail to pull people’s attention, despite what the talk is really about.

You may find that a non-qualified employee gets the awards faster than a qualified or hardworking one. The difference between the two is not the work, but the influence that each leaves on their bosses.

In fact, many managers don’t rely on common sense in their day-to-day decision-making procedures. Rather, they always believe that hypocritical employee. The excitement that managers see on employees' faces is enough to convince them about his idea, although it makes no sense. This demonstrates that the personality of the speaker is much stronger than the content itself.

Be Loved and Funny

The most common tool for convincing is being funny and lovely. Using funny words during your conversation or speech will attract people and convince them, even if you talk in nonsensical terms.

If you want to get out of trouble but don’t know how, just be funny when you talk. This will add more honesty to your speech, which in turn will convince the listener about your thoughts.

For instance, one day, an actor pretended that he was the professor of a class, and he gave a lecture to students with a lot of nonsensical language. The shocking fact is that all the students loved his speech and found it mind-blowing because of the funny language that he uses.

Use Simple and Understandable Words

When talking directly with another person, make sense of everything you say and keep it very simple. Do not give the person many options because people don’t like details.

Use points and steps to reach your conclusion. Do not confuse people by giving them all the information at once. Otherwise, they will be overwhelmed with lots of information, and here you lose them.

Cold Reading

You don’t need to know the details about the person you are talking to, but you definitely need to use general talk that fits everybody and makes everybody feel that you understand him or her. The idea is to have everyone involved in your talk.

If you are working in sales, you can use this method to build good relationships with clients because it helps you tell them that you know all their needs and concerns.

Cold reading requires non-specific and mysterious sentences that are more general and can be translated to different meanings.

Let the Listener Wonder

In order to make a commercial advertisement work for you, you need to steal people's attention. If you can't, then clients won’t care about your message.

The first thing you need to do is make the listener wonder and grab their attention. Then you can tell your story afterword.

If you can’t do it in the first few seconds of the speech, then no one will continue listing to you. This concept is similar to the introduction of a story on Medium. The introduction is where you need to make the reader wonder.

You can steal the audience's attention by simply providing unexpected and unregular things.

An example of that is an advertisement video that shows a little kid playing tennis against an adult, but unexpectedly, the kid wins against the grown man. This was considered a little strange in normal circumstances, where an adult man will always win against a small kid.

This was strange enough to pull the audience's attention to know what the end will be like. Eventually, the kid appeared to be Andre Agassi’s son, one of the most famous tennis players in the world.

Change The Way of Thinking

Building desire in the audience is the essential factor that pushes people to buy your product. You may find that many people buy silly things that they don’t need or items that don't provide any real value. The only reason to buy it is the desire to own these things.

For instance, a person may buy a smart phone even though he already has one and it works fine.

Instead of giving mindful reasons to make clients buy your product, give them the reason that arouses their desire to buy it and change their thinking about what you provide. In this way, they will buy what they want, not what they actually need.

Rely on Clients' Reviews and Stories

When we want to buy something online, we rely on the buyer's reviews and opinions about the product.

The reviews of clients who have already bought the product are very important in our decision-making. If you want to buy a laptop online, would you trust the person who sells the product or the person who has already bought the product?

I think I know the answer.

Thus, if you want to make lots of sales, make your clients sell for you and make them suggest your product to their friends and family. You can also depend on telling stories about people's experiences with the product. This is a method that almost every online coach relies on!

Do Not Go Against The Listener

In many cases, the reason for rejecting your speech or product is just an opinion that goes against the listener.

You need to show trust in your listener's opinion and build trust between you and him/her. Then you can gradually convince him/her about your thoughts.

Let's assume that you are a salesperson and that you want the client to buy a car from you. The client may say that the car is small. Don’t convince him that the car is big, but agree with him about it. The client will trust you more if you trust his opinion.

Instead, explain to the client that small cars are better at saving gas and easier to deal with. Here, you give another reason to buy the car. Remember, you already gained your client's trust, so he or she will most likely be convinced by what you say.

In summary, there might be various reasons why you want to convince people to like your ideas, whether you want to sell a product or convince an audience. The examples mentioned in the article are more in business, but all these concepts can be used in our lives to gain the acceptance of people around us.
