There was nothing that grandad wouldn’t turn his mind to. If something needed inventing, he’d invent it! (well, at least he’d give it a good go).

And so, some fifty years ago, he turned his mind to THE TELEPHONE.

He didn’t actually have one … nor did most of his friends and workmates, but he’d seen them a lot at the movies.
Even old movies showed family members taking and making calls on an quaint hand-held device like this:

And the one’s he’d seen in more modern movies of his time showed this sort of equipment for making calls:
