Food is viewed as medicine in Ayurveda. Ayurveda uses a variety of herbs in combination with one another to cure a variety of illnesses. The Triphala is one of them, and it is the most significant. The Triphala is one of them and perhaps the most significant.

Triphala, which translates as “three fruits,” refers to Amalaki, or Indian gooseberry, Haritaki, or chebulic myrobalan, and Bibhitaki, or Terminalia bellirica. Each of these herbs has distinct qualities, and Triphala is a blend of these herbs in a particular proportion.

All of the six Rasas^ (Madhura or Sweet, Amla or Sour, Katuka or Pungent, Tikta or Bitter, and Kasaya or Astringent), with the exception of lavana or salty, are present in Haritaki, or chebulic myrobalan. Haritaki is a hot, light, and energizing herb. It enhances digestion, strengthens sense organs and the mind, and combats a host of illnesses. It is used in a number of treatments alongside other herbs. It is used successfully for a variety of conditions, including cough, diarrhea, excessive mucus production, heart problems, impotency, and skin illnesses (including leprosy).

Amalaki, also known as Indian gooseberry, is a common ingredient in both internal and external Ayurvedic treatments. Haritaki and Amalaki both have comparable properties, although Amalaki has cold potency. Due to its rasas, Amalaki, like Haritaki, is beneficial in addressing doshas* imbalance. Along with other herbs, Amalaki is effective in treating a number of illnesses, including fever, liver disease, and heart disease.

There are two main rasas in Vibhitaki: Madhura, which is sweet, and Kasaya, which is astringent. It has a hot action and can be used to balance the doshas. Compared to Amalaki, its qualities are lesser. Vibhitaki has hot potency. Vibhitaki can be used to treat a variety of conditions, including insomnia, eye care, cough, and hair care.

The most popular churna (powder) in Ayurveda, Triphala, has Rasayana# characteristics. Except for lavana or salty, triphala has all rasas. The potency of Triphala is neutral. It is both anti-inflammatory and strong in antioxidants. It enhances intestinal health, digestion, and vision. Triphala is beneficial in treating a number of illnesses, including obesity and several skin disorders.
