Meta Fashion, for Any Reality

Digital fashion is on the rise from fictional garments you can wear exclusively on a digital platform to real-world fashion brands going AR. This week RFKT’s creation the MetaJacket goes viral, with four different models you can bid on via Digitalax. Designer Toby Evans, recently launched a new creative studio Zome, with pieces inspired by Versace, Adidas, Boiler Room amongst others.

Rebecca Minkoff releases her spring/summer line at NYFW in partnership with Yahoo Ryot Labs, using augmented reality to allow fans to experience the collection in 3D.

Clothing boutique Machine-A and the Institute of Fashion Design launch an augmented store environment via an AR filter on Instagram to promote London Fashion Week collections.

Chanel’s new Lipscanner app lets you use your phone camera to identify a colour, and then use the app to suggest a match from Chanel’s lipstick collection of over 400 products.

Essie partners with ModiFace to create a tool that allows you to try any nail polish shade using AR.

The Race to Smart Glasses

Samsung joins the smart glasses race alongside Facebook and Apple. Two concept videos were leaked on Twitter this week showcasing various features of the alleged 3DOF headset. The video shows off video calling, watch paired controls, home entertainment and office simulation capabilities.

AR Glasses startup, Kura Technologies reveals in an interview, it’s getting ready to begin production at the end of 2021 and will price the glasses at $1500 initially hoping to drop prices as mass production picks up.

The first standalone VR and AR headset, Lynx-R1, also be priced at $1500, releases a sneak peak of its mixed reality mode, showing off its pass through capabilities.

Events Happening This Week

Crypto Fashion Week is a series of discussions and workshops all happening on Clubhouse, with topics such as meta-fashion, crypto art, avatars and more. Monday February 22 through Friday February 26th.

Shaping the Adoption of XR in Retail will be a panel hosted by the VR/AR Association on Tuesday February 23rd, 2021 from 17:00–18:00 (GMT).
