Which is better?

The debate rages on. Do you prefer a large gym with all the bells and whistles? Or do you prefer a smaller, quieter gym with less to offer? Two years ago, I switched from a boutique-style gym to a mega gym. The smaller gym went out of business due to COVID; I had no choice. I have considered switching back to a smaller gym. But first, a thought experiment…

Mega Gyms

What do I mean when I say, “mega gym?” Mega gyms are your enormous gyms that have tons of square footage and tons of bells and whistles. They tend to have many employees and tons of equipment. Their business model is about quantity.

Pros: Mega gyms have all the goods. They have every piece of equipment you could think of, basketball and racquetball courts, personal training rooms, and even “cardio theaters.” But most of all, they have saunas. I love the sauna. It was a huge decision-making factor for me. You can read my article on the benefits of sauna sessions here.
