In Omnia Paratus: Life Is Short. Write Well.

So What Is This?

Welcome to In Omnia Paratus!

--

If you’re a Gilmore Girls fan, you probably know that the title comes from the Life and Death Brigade, and that our subtitle, Life Is Short. Write Well, is a riff on a line from Lorelai (the original: Life is short. Talk fast.)

Join us as we travel through Stars Hollow and, as we say, become better writers with lessons from Gilmore Girls.

Posts will be twice a week: Tuesdays and Thursdays.

That’s when you’ll find writing lessons drawn from the hit Warner Bros show and the writing genius that is Amy Sherman-Palladino, creator and writer of Gilmore Girls.

Who Are We?

We’re both writers and fans of the show, having binged Gilmore Girls multiple times each. We’ve both taught at and helped run numerous writing conferences. We both love the written word.

Gina Denny (follow her on Medium here) posts on Tuesdays.

Annette Lyon (follow her on Medium here) posts on Thursdays.

What to Expect

While we’re big fans of Gilmore Girls and Amy Sherman-Palladino in general, we’re also very aware that she is (gasp!) human and flawed.

That means the show is both brilliant (which provides lessons for writers) and has missteps at times (which also provides lessons for writers).

We’ll look at both.

Unlike many other outlets that dive into individual shows, we won’t be starting at the first episode, going episode by episode to the finale. We’ll hop around, refer to several episodes in a single post at times, go wherever the writing lessons lead us. (Heck, we won’t stop with the finale; we dive into A Year in the Life, the revival, too!)

One big thing to know: If you haven’t seen the show and don’t want things spoiled, you may want to watch the show, stat. We won’t be warning about spoilers, and they abound.

Join us every Tuesday and Thursday!

Subscribe via email or just follow here to be sure you’ll see every post.

Then pick up a mug filled with your beverage of choice and hang out with us in our very own literary Stars Hollow.
