Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
EMDR is a form of therapy targeting traumatic memories. It uses bilateral stimulation which is just another way of saying ‘follow the bouncing ball.’ My therapist told me up front that some people don’t make it through the sessions. Now I know what he meant by that.
№ 2 Traumatic Memory — a true story by yours truly
I always looked forward to typing class because that’s when we middle schoolers got to play. Mr. W. set up a contest for us as we sat at our typewriters and typed the assignment.
Contest rules:
1. If you need to start over, pull the paper out of the typewriter, crumple it up, and throw it at the wastebasket by Mr. W’s. desk.
2. If you miss the basket, you have earned a swat with Mr. W’s. paddle.Naturally, being typical seventh graders, the boys set up a contest to see who could earn the most swats that year. And naturally, being who I am, I joined in the contest.
