Partner Innovation Award Winner Spotlight: How Specright Used Blockchain to Change the Game for the Supply Chain

Until last spring, the average person rarely thought about the global supply chain. It wasn’t until the pandemic hit that suddenly the supply chain was front and center — the reason for countless back-ups and delays in fulfillment. Suddenly, inefficiencies and legacy challenges were exposed, prompting the need for countless companies to adopt digital transformation for good.

Specification Management is a crucial part of supply chain management, which is exactly where Specright shines. In fact, Specright is the first-ever system designed to manage specs, which include anything and everything you need to make a product.

“Specright founder Matthew Wright spent 20 years as a packaging supplier and experienced the negative consequences from companies managing specs in spreadsheets, shared drives, and legacy systems,” said Laura Foti, VP of Marketing at Specright.“He realized a lack of spec management led to product waste, lost revenue, and ultimately unhappy customers, so he built Specright to solve this critical problem.”

As part of the Salesforce ecosystem, Specright helps customers digitize and manage specification data, which includes raw materials, ingredients, formulas, products, packaging, and related documentation. And with the launch of its Specright Network this past June, users can easily share critical supply chain data back and forth with their suppliers, retailers, and manufacturers.

This is just one of the reasons Specright was chosen as a Salesforce Partner Innovation Award winner in November 2020 in the cloud solution category for its work with the Salesforce Platform. We recently sat down with Laura to learn more about how Specright helped Salesforce customer Grimmway Farms digitize its core supply chain functions. Read the full interview or watch the video below featuring Specright CEO Matthew Wright.

Hear Specright CEO Matthew Wright share how the company helped Grimmway Farms increase visibility and traceability across all aspects of the supply chain using blockchain technology built on the Salesforce Platform.

How does Specright partner with Salesforce?

Specright is built on force.com and is an ISV partner. Matthew, our CEO, likes to compare it to how iPhone apps like Lyft or Spotify are built on the Apple iOS operating system. The force.com platform has enabled us to build and innovate quickly in a way that’s secure and scalable. Salesforce has been an incredible partner because there’s so much innovation we’ve been able to leverage — and the Partner Innovation Award confirms we’re doing the right things with the technology.

How did you use your blockchain technology to help Grimmway Farms?

Grimmway Farms is the largest organic grower, producer, and shipper of carrots in the world. As part of the company’s growth, the number of brands they had to manage grew exponentially, and so did the new packaging requirements that go with them. So it was really about efficiency — finding a way to digitize, standardize, and centrally manage packaging specs and work with its vast network of suppliers to get accurate, up-to-date spec data.

Specifications are constantly changing due to factors like regulatory compliance, sustainability efforts, and marketing initiatives, and it impacts the entire supply chain. Specright Network means customers like Grimmway can improve visibility, organization, and change management of critical spec data, while increasing efficiency and control.

With Specright, Grimmway has improved the quality of its product and packaging data, increased organizational efficiency, and realized tremendous cost savings. Plus, it’s cut the time it takes to prepare an RFP in half, as well as reduced the onboarding time of new suppliers from two months to one.

What makes Specright different from its competitors?

At Specright, we pioneered a spec-first approach and continue to define and lead Specification Management as a new category of enterprise software. This is a fundamentally different way of managing supply chain data. Historically, software has looked at products at the finished good or bill of materials level. In this day and age, that level of detail just doesn’t cut it. For companies to create supply chain visibility, advance consumer transparency, and report on sustainability, they need to have specification data.

We’re also constantly engaging with our customers and partners to understand their needs, while at the same time keeping an eye on what’s next to ensure we’re at the forefront of technology. In fact, we just published the Specright Credo, which outlines our values, aspirations, and promise to our customers and partners. Our mission is to help companies make amazing things, and it’s something we never lose sight of.
