WHAT WE’RE WATCHING

After months of negotiations, the House finally passed the $1.2 trillion bipartisan infrastructure bill in a 228–206 vote

  • The bill includes funding for roads & bridges, public transit, broadband infrastructure, and more
  • The Build Back Better (BBB) plan is expected to move forward as well, though it may undergo significant changes in the Senate
  • Some Senate Democrats are still pushing for pathways to citizenship for undocumented immigrants in the BBB, but may have to settle for more temporary provisions such as five-year work permits and deportation protections

The Senate has confirmed Robert Santos as the first Latino, and first person of color, to lead the U.S. Census Bureau
