Redgrid & IOEN Bring the Solarminer to California

The Solarminer is IOEN and Redgrid’s renewable energy solution to cryptocurrency mining’s energy problem. Los Angeles-based property developer Kinfolk Properties have teamed up with IOEN and Redgrid to integrate sustainable Bitcoin mining and clean energy infrastructure into their flagship multi-dwelling residential development in Venice Beach. A Mission to the Sun

The sun is ubiquitous. Energy abounds from this incredible burning star, and it’s going to change the way everyone mines crypto-currency. It has traditionally been a high-energy consumption process where computers solve mathematical problems to mint new coins. The mathematical problem gets harder every time it is solved. More computing power is needed. Thus, more energy is required. Energy is expensive. The cost to the environment is unacceptable. Democratization and decentralization are key features of the many recent media, finance, and technology innovations. Cryptocurrency is here to stay, and so is the sun. Redgrid’s solar-powered crypto mining infrastructure is following the sun to the skyline of Los Angeles (LA), California. A commercial developer based in LA’s Venice Beach, has created the space atop one of their developments for Redgrid and IOEN’s cryptocurrency mining rig, Solarminer.

Why California?

Based on the test case conducted by IOEN and RedGrid, the Solarminer will be deployed as a mining PC that requires significantly less power to mine. And, with mining rewards, the Solarminer will be able to pay for and fund the mining infrastructure. This project has been in the works for some time and now is the right moment to take it to one of the sunniest places on Earth. Solar panels have had a steady decline in price since their introduction onto the retail market, along with the cost of installation. California has an average of 284 sunny days a year. With affordable solar panels and near-universal sunlight in California, the Redgrid team has decided to demonstrate how Solarminer can digitally manage solar energy from one location to another, following the sun wherever it shines. It shines so much in Venice Beach that we estimate that we’ll produce more solar energy than we consume. Venice Beach is just the beginning.

What is the SolarMiner

Crypto is a common feature of our daily lives. Why? Because crypto-technology has decentralized much of our lives from contracts to the concept of money itself. Unfortunately, humans have done what they always do, industrialized the process. People have taken the approach to crypto-currency mining to the extreme. Some people in places like Iceland run industrialized mining rigs that run off geothermal energy deep below the Earth. The everyday person will probably never be able to run a mining rig at home economically, let alone environmentally. The Solarminer infrastructure is simple. The Solarminer software is open-source and intelligent. However, you don’t need to live next to a geothermal vent to find a free energy source to mine for Bitcoin or Ethereum etc. In fact, even when surplus energy is at its lowest the Solarminer can adjust the amount of mining performed with greater efficiency and fidelity than the big rigs out there.
