IOEN Team Spotlight — Meet the team behind the Technology

As early members of our community, you may have started to get to know a few of us through AMAs, videos, and from many of our team members’ history with RedGrid. As you learn more about our team, something that you’ll quickly notice is the diversity of our career backgrounds. The expertise of our founding team spans many different sectors, whether it be climate science, cyber security, banking, blockchain, energy, or SaaS. It’s this diversity of perspectives and experiences that empowers us to push the boundaries of energy innovation and create a system that reimagines how clean energy can operate at both a global and community level.

This medium article is a living document and over the course of this week will grow, introducing you to the IOEN core team. Stay tuned.

First up we have:

⚡️Adam Bumpus

Executive Director and Co-Founder, IOEN.

Dr. Adam Bumpus has worked in climate and energy technology innovation for nearly 20 years, helping organisations like the UN, World Bank, and the private sector improve clean energy investment and innovation. In 2018, Adam co-founded RedGrid, one of Australia’s leading energy software companies that is blazing the path towards decentralisation. His passion has been to make clean energy accessible and available to everyone. To do this RedGrid is building software-defined grids (SDGs), a new digital infrastructure that enables devices within the household to autonomously participate in grid stability, rewarding individuals for their participation, and bringing everyone together.

Adam holds a doctorate from Oxford University in carbon finance and has held visiting scholars positions at Stanford and UC Berkeley. He is published in world-renowned journals on climate change solutions and technology. Prior to RedGrid, Adam co-founded and ran a media agency delivering international climate and energy development projects, and co-founded and led carbon analysis for a carbon ratings startup in the UK. He is a regular on national TV in Australia, loves to swim, ski, and surf, but needs a lot more practice in the surf department.

⚡️Simon Wilson

CTO, Director and Co-Founder, IOEN.

With a background primarily in Financial Services Technology Simon has over ten years of experience working for and with leading Australian banks in both a global and domestic capacity.

His role has spanned many areas of Technology including a position with NAB as their joint working group lead for Blockchain Technology and strategy. This role comprised; group education, evangelising of the technology opportunity and threats, development of business opportunities as well as contribution, establishment, and execution of many Blockchain related experiments, PoC’s, Pilots, collaborations, and partnerships.

A passionate and active leader in the Blockchain community both locally and abroad Simon has hosted several Blockchain Melbourne meetups, and has been a speaker at Blockchain Summit 2017/2018, Blockchain APAC Summit 2018, and appeared on various Blockchain panels. He has also previously been invited to host workshops on Blockchain Technology in Dubai, Malaysia, and India.

Simon is a member of the advisory board for the Australian Digital Commerce Association (ADCA), is an active member of the ASEAN Association of Crypto-currency Enterprises and Start-ups (ACCESS), the Wall Street Blockchain Alliance, and the MIT FinTech community, and is an advisor to the ‘SlaveFreeTrade — World Blockchain Academy for girls’ initiative.

Simon holds MIT ‘Future of Commerce’ certification where his project ‘Crowdwise’ for which he was CEO was voted in the top 20 of over 1000 FinTech start-ups. Additionally, he holds certification with Stanford for ‘Economics — Game Theory’ and has achieved certifications in discrete Mathematics, Computer Science Data Structures, programming and JavaScript, Solidity along with other Blockchain relevant fields.

In 2018 Simon Co-Founded RedGrid, leading its technical development as CTO. Simon is the architect of the Internet of Energy Network, built on the foundational Internet of Energy technology under the development of RedGrid.

⚡️Alex Evans

Content and Brand Lead, and Co-Founder

Alex has been in the blockchain space for the past 7 years. In that time he has worked with world-renowned blockchain organisations, including ConsenSys in New York. Since then, Alex co-founded the leading clean energy technology company RedGrid in 2018.

As marketing lead at IOEN, Alex is also developing IOEN’s NFT strategy. In the NFT space, Alex has been involved since 2018, as an early user of CryptoKitties. In 2021, Alex has gone on to be a prominent figure in the NFT space, advising leading sports leagues globally (Cricket and Formula 1), Lamelo Ball’s record-breaking $1.7m NFT sale, Fine Art Auction House partnered NFT platforms, and leading fashion designers.

Next up:

Mike Gamble

Lead Architect and Data Privacy, and Co-Founder

​​Mike was co-host of the first Blockchain Developers Meetup in Melbourne, AU in 2015, and sat on the advisory panel for the 2nd annual APAC Blockchain conference in 2018. Later that year he brought Holochain to RedGrid, and the rest is history. He ran monthly Holochain Meetups until March 2020.

Mike is an electrical engineer with a majority of his career in national telecommunications networks, the past three years in cyber security. Previously he worked on robotics, autonomous vehicles, and ROVs (remote operated submarines). He has had startups from kinesiology modelling to sports electronics, but none with a mission as important as IOEN.

Emily Loving

Product and Operations Lead

Emily is an experienced product leader who specialises in developing vision and roadmaps for business. Among Emily’s specialties include product strategy, IoT technology, and continuous discovery. In 2021, Emily led the product development of the RedGrid Powers App, the first implementation of IOEN technology in the real world.

With a background of working in early-stage startups, she brings a wealth of knowledge in operations and project delivery to IOEN. Emily has a passion for social good and pioneered an innovative campaign called The Plastic Challenge and Emily was runner up in the UK’s Happy List: The Outstanding People Giving Positivity in Britain for her contribution towards charity.

Last, but not least we have:

David Atkinson

Director and Strategy Lead

David Atkinson, Director and Strategic Lead at IOEN, is one of the founding members of Holochain and Holo, leading Holochain’s commercial development. He has extensive experience in the crypto and post-blockchain industry, technology, and markets.

David is a well-known advisor having worked with businesses like Terra Virtua, AllianceBlock, Orion Protocol over the last few years. David runs several youtube series on peer-to-peer technologies, and has operated and advised over 50 companies in the space.

He specialises in ecosystem growth, circular crypto economies and strategic vision.

There you have it, these are the main people behind the project, hope you enjoyed getting to know us.

⚡️Thing Thing

CMO

Thing Thing has over six years of experience in Branding and Digital Marketing across the Telco and Tech industries. With a couple of Digital Marketing Awards such as the YouTube Works Awards and Marketing Excellence Awards under her belt, Thing Thing’s success has been driven by a deep enthusiasm for the products and brands such as IOEN which are built with a great cause in mind.

As a devotee towards the future of blockchain technology, she truly believes in IOEN’s vision and mission in contributing to the betterment of society. She is determined to bring her expertise and passion through storytelling in the digital space to help shape the future of IOEN in the cryptocurrency space.

In her spare time, she also focuses on hunting down another gluten-free chocolate cake or pasta for all the gluten-free peeps around her.

⚡️Connor Gamble

Head of Operations

Connor’s background is in the cryptocurrency space, previously leading digital assets exchange ChainRift as Chief Compliance Officer. He’s worked with and advised multiple blockchain projects as a consultant, at various stages of growth.

His background is in law and in 2017, Connor published a law journal entry on global cryptocurrency regulation.

He’s excited to join the IOEN project as Head of Operations and looks forward to helping contribute to the IOEN journey as through its continual development and into the adoption phase.
