It isn’t possible to predict every potential question you will receive during a job interview. But, some questions are asked almost every time.

The questions seem deceptively simple. However, many candidates flub their answers because they don’t anticipate what the interviewers are hoping to hear.

I hope that my story helps you better prepare your responses so that you are one of the few candidates who make it to the next phase of your interview process.

It starts with intense preparation. Do your homework about the company, the role, people working there, etc. I can’t emphasize this enough.

Customize your answers to fit the job. As you interview with different companies, you should focus on the most relevant aspects of your strengths, skills, and experience.

The content in your prepared answers can be repurposed for other questions too. Maybe they won’t specifically ask you, “Tell me about yourself,” but they may ask why you are interested in the job.

What they are trying to understand is:

  • Why you are seeking a new job
  • Why you want to work for…
