Invironment Submissions Guidelines

Invironment is an independent Medium publication dedicated to Nature: inside of us and all around us.

We believe that nature is a continuum and we’re as much a part of it as rocks or trees, rivers or rabbits, elephants or hurricanes. We call it “participatory ecology” because the best way to be ecological isn’t just to be a passive observer, but an active participant in Nature.

Who We Are

Jeremy Puma, a Seattle resident, teaches classes and workshops in Permaculture and Foraging for Wild Edibles with the Seattle Farm School and City Fruit. He is certified in Landscape Design through Bastyr University and received his Permaculture Design Certification from the Permaculture Institute of North America. An avowed Radical Animist with a love for plants, Jeremy also believes in magic.

Tim Boucher is a small organic herb farmer and commercial wild foods forager living in Quebec, Canada whose work has appeared in Small Farm Canada magazine.

What we’re looking for

We’re looking for well-written articles, creative non-fiction and original photography related to: nature, environment, food, farm & garden, foraging, natural building, sustainability, and the Good Life. Think: first-person nature experiences embedded in a global environmental context.

Policies

Authorship

At Invironment, we publish our stories under our own (human) names and ask that you do the same. We believe we ought to stand behind our words. If you’re writing on behalf of an organization or brand, we ask that you include a by-line for our readers.

Intellectual Property

You retain all rights to your piece. When your work is included in our publication, it remains your intellectual property, and you are free to remove it any time.

Editing

We will not edit your piece, unless otherwise agreed. To maintain a certain standard of quality in the stories we publish we may leave private notes on your story with typographical errors and occasional suggestions.

Attribution & References

We ask that you include credit to the photographer for any images used and a link to the original where possible.

Please also include well-sourced references as links in your articles where appropriate.

Compensation

Invironment is unable to offer financial compensation to included authors at this time, though we would like to be able to down the road.

You may include links to other personal products, projects or social media accounts at the end of your story, but we ask they that be minimal, tastefully-presented and text-based. We also ask that you don’t include a “Request for follows” or for recommendations in your post. We find it distracting and if your work is good, people will recommend it and follow you!

Sponsored Content

We may make allowances for organizations, brands and companies to publish stories on Invironment on a case-by-case basis.

Please email us at [email protected] with inquiries.

Thanks and Happy Invironmenting!
