Introducing IPEVO iDocCam — an app that turns your smartphone into a document camera instantly. You can use it as a visual communication tool to enhance teaching, learning, collaboration, and more. Let’s take a look at the different ways to use it.

Using it as a standalone app

The most basic way to use iDocCam is to use it as a standalone app on your smartphone. With it, you can view the live images shown through your phone’s camera and adjust some image settings such as exposure, white balance, and focus.

Using it with IPEVO Visualizer software

When iDocCam is used in conjunction with IPEVO Visualizer software, you can instantly turn your smartphone into a wireless document camera. Follow the steps below to do so:

  1. Install iDocCam on your smartphone.
  2. Grab another device and install IPEVO Visualizer on it. You can use a Mac, PC, Chromebook, iOS/Android devices, or 4th generation and above version of Apple TV.*
  3. Connect your smartphone and the device to the same wireless network.**
  4. Launch iDocCam and Visualizer, respectively.
  5. Choose your smartphone as the camera source in Visualizer.

*Updated on April 13: For Android phone users, you can use iDocCam with the Mac, PC, Chromebook, iOS, or Android version of IPEVO Visualizer.
**Updated on May 1: If you’re using an iPhone (with iDocCam installed) together with an iOS/macOS device (with Visualizer installed), you do not need to connect them to the same wireless network. You can connect them via Bluetooth instead. Just ensure both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on your iPhone and iOS/macOS device have been turned on.

And voila! You’ll be able to view the live images of your phone’s camera in Visualizer, turning your smartphone into a document camera instantly for showing physical materials or documents! And if you connect your device to a projector, the live images will be projected onto a large screen. Aside from controlling and adjusting the live images using Visualizer, you can also utilize the available features in Visualizer to take snapshots, record videos, set up live broadcasts, and so on.

Connecting it to an external display via AirPlay/ Miracast/ Chromecast or HDMI/VGA

For iPhone users, you have the choice to AirPlay the live images of your phone’s camera in iDocCam to an external display for wireless large-screen projection. For Android phone users, you can do so via Miracast or Chromecast. Additionally, you can connect your smartphone to an external display for large-screen projection via HDMI/VGA.*** Either way, the external display will function as an extended screen for your projection. Meaning, neither notifications nor messages nor user interface on your smartphone would show up on the display while you’re using it. Plus, you get to use a few more features such as rotate, filters, and snapshot in this mode as compared to the standalone mode.

***Some models of Android phones do not support HDMI/VGA connection to an external display.
