The Watching
a reflective poem
To bear witness to feelings
housed inside
just passing through
like the highwayman
galloping away to the West
treading the line
with the loot
Instead of getting into a bar fight —
a cacophony of emotions
and meeting Tim the snitch
tainting the young maiden Bess
the femme fatale
Leading to an inner quest
of martyrdom and self-sacrifice
in the name of love
revenge burning inside
the lovers live there now
haunting the Inn
couched in unrealized dreams.
If only the highwayman had passed through like an emotion.
