Welcome to our ITProsWhoCare Spotlight series. This is an ongoing collection of posts that features members of our Community.

In our last release we learnt about Mario and his vision to a world where proper education and healthcare is free to everyone.

In this release please meet Jaka from Slovenia— who really enjoys all sorts of mountaineering, fantasy and puzzles.

Without further ado and a big drum roll to another member of #ITProsWhoCare, here is his interview with us:

#charity: What gets you up in the morning? What is your life motto?

Jaka: I’m up in a blink of an eye, so there is no need for encouraging internal monologue. While there is a certain rhythm, pattern to the usual day, it’s still the vast and exciting space of possibilities and uncertainties that drives me forward. What will I do, what will I learn today?

My motto would be a combination of at least two quotes: “Specialization is for insects” by Heinlein and “Be the trouble you want to see in the world” by Comeau.

#charity: Describe the world you want your children to grow up in.

Jaka: A world where NGOs are nigh obsolete and people live within the boundaries of our planet.

#charity: What skills are you offering to the #charity NGOs?

Jaka: Various libre software experience and integration, but maybe more importantly, I can act as sort of a translator between the languages of hardcore developers and NGOs.

#charity: Why are you here? What motivated you to support the #charity community?

Jaka: It sounded interesting and challenging — doing good is just a bonus. Plus there’s a chance I’ll get some IT help for our own NGO, too.

When I’m not around electronics, I highly enjoy all sorts of mountaineering, fantasy and puzzles.

#charity: Tell us a little about yourself. What’s your story? What was a truly life transforming or meaningful moment in your life so far?

Jaka: I’m a Slovenian of many interests and have been working mostly in the environmental NGO sector as a jack of all trades, only one of which is IT. When I’m not around electronics, I highly enjoy all sorts of mountaineering and puzzles.

One of the most memorable moments in recent time was when our first project culminated and became a success — we managed to convince 14% of the entire nation to help us clean the country on a particular day. It was a truly defining moment!

#charity: Where did you learn about #charity?

Jaka: Probably from a group at LinkedIn.

#charity: Anything else you want to leave the #charity community with?

Jaka: Come and do good! Or perhaps evil, if #charity will welcome that kind of NGOs. :D And don’t forget to be awesome!

You can tweet @zmaganost under #ITproJaka this week for questions, to meet him locally if you are around or just to say hi ☺
