Dating back to Sep 15th, 2018, 1st build of Confidant Android client was released that marked Confidant app’s debut firstly to the QLC community. At Singapore consensus, Confidant Station hardware was first demonstrated as a privacy protection tool and received overwhelming attention, we then set to work on its next update. That is how it’s been ever since.

As of Sept 5th, 2019, Confidant has come to its 1.0. 9 version and gone through 306 builds, with the introduction of new main features and enhancement of the platform as a whole, Confidant moves further towards its target to grow into comprehensive privacy management and protection platform.

Confidant latest update features encrypted messaging, email services aggregator, private cloud and differentiates for its blockchain-like account creating and distributing mechanism.

NO centralized server, no third-party service provider, no spying eyes are possibly involved.

The team has started working on Chrome extension and desktop client development. The other much-expected features including voice and video calls are in the pipeline.

Looking at Dev team’s commits to the Confidant GitHub repository, each single update compromises of more than 10 builds and involves countless loops of testing, bug reports, fixes and improvements.

In the meanwhile, Confidant Stations/ Nodes pre-installed software has been constantly updated for encryption protocol and general improvements. All Confidant nodes across the global network would automatically upgrade to the most recent version once connected to the network.

Oh, do not hesitate to bring more friends to Confidant, make your conversations take place at your own backyard. The ongoing limited offering of life-time free accounts is a perfect start of having a sense of all in-app services for your friends.

As a communication tool in general, we value the social connections and ‘real circle’ you bring to empower the platform. More importantly, the security of your social contacts lies at the core of Confidant product value.

That is why the one-line description ‘Confidant does not track your social contacts’ is given the most prominent placement on the Confidant website. We believe all the stories derive from this line.

3 No Tracks of Confidant

At the time of the 1-year celebration of Confidant, we composed a brief review of Confidant development milestones to walk you through Confidant’s growth.

A Brief History of Confidant

Version 0.0.1

Encrypted messaging via P2P network.

Confidant development started with the MVP concept in mind, its UI follows a minimalist and clean style. Users can merely send and receive messages using Confidant. Oversized files can’t be uploaded. Sometimes there’s message loss due to unstable p2p connection. That’s what we focus to improve.

Version 0.2.6

Add ‘Mention’ in Group chat.

Version 0.2.8

Facelift of the Chats module UI and QR codes redesign.

The team worked with a senior UI designer for some time on the UI and UX redesign of Confidant. She had all the modules redesigned with the visual style renovated, colors added. That lies the foundation of the current Chats module look.

Given the many feedback from the early users and clients, we were once stuck with the multiple uses of QR codes and having our clients use the proper QR codes intuitively.

One QR Code for adding members to the owner’s circle

One QR Code for synchronizing data when logging from new devices.

One QR Code as Contact QR code for adding contacts/friends.

The final change was made on the placement of ‘Add a New Member’ under ‘Manage Circle Members’, which differentiates it from ‘My Contact QR code’, and rename the sync QR code as ‘My private code’

Version 0.2.9

A major upgrade of the security protocol

Beyond a private cloud storage server — A Confidant can also Run as QLC Chain Node

Collaborating with the public chain development team, the Confidant dev team finally turns Confidant into a functioning QLC Chain node. Now all Confidant loaded with a 2T hard drive can serve as QLC Chain node. Once synched with the QLC Chain network, it will update the ledger and contributes to the overall security and stability of the network.

Version 0.3.0 & 0.3.1

When talking to enterprises and employees from various industries, we found out that email security remains an increasing concern. In the meanwhile, with the efforts of directing the existing email users to Confidant email service, Confidant could possibly grab a share of the enormous market of encrypted email and adding the email contacts to Chats contact list. To this end, a desktop Confidant client with the cross-device platform structure is much needed.

Encrypted email service aggregator in version 0.3.3 ( for iOS) supports multiple most widely used email services including Gmail, Yahoo, Outlook, 163mail, QQmail and QQ enterprise mail.
