Faith means taking risks. Beach walks offer you three ways to walk, each a metaphor for the three ways to walk with God.
As soon as you start walking on the beach, you quickly see three kinds of sand to choose from, each offering various levels of risk, and relationship with something greater than yourself:
- The hard rough, dry sand feels isolating. There is zero chance you’ll get wet or messy in the coarse sand. It’s often hotter and the hardest, roughest sand to walk over. Walking over the dry sand is like living life on your own, living your way — and the struggle means your shoes will be full of sand.
- The smooth soaking sand means being open to the risk of believing in something more significant. Soft sand is wet and full of life, allowing you to walk faster. Your shoes won’t get messy — but you risk getting splashed by a sudden wave. This walk is a metaphor for how most Christians live: mostly on our own — yet we know God is close, there for us.
