KyberSwap integrates WalletLink & WalletConnect

KyberSwap DEX has added a new useful feature!

From today onwards, users will have the additional options of WalletLink and WalletConnect to access KyberSwap.com on desktop. The two new add-ons will provide a better user experience for traders, as they are able to use KyberSwap.com by just scanning a QR code, without needing to install any browser extension. This will complement our existing wallet support for Metamask, Ledger, Trezor, Private Key, and Keystore.

What are WalletLink and WalletConnect?

WalletConnect and WalletLink are 2 separate protocols used for the same purpose. They help to connect desktop DApps such as KyberSwap.com to 3rd party mobile wallets using end to end encryption by scanning a QR code.

UPDATE: WalletConnect integration is now also available on the KyberSwap iOS and android app! WalletLink is not available on the KyberSwap app.

WalletLink

WalletLink is an open protocol that lets users connect their mobile crypto wallets to web DApps like KyberSwap.com in a simple and secure manner. Users can now use your DApp in any browser without installing an extension. Private keys never leave mobile wallets, keeping user funds safe. End-to-end encryption using client-side generated keys keeps all user activity private.

Currently Coinbase Wallet supports WalletLink (download link).

WalletConnect

Similar to WalletLink, WalletConnect is an open protocol for connecting desktop DApps to mobile Wallets using end-to-end encryption by scanning a QR code. The user can interact with any DApp without comprising their private keys and will be notified to sign any transaction requests on their mobile.

WalletConnect uses a Bridge server to relay the messages without having access to any of its contents. The contents are encrypted using the session data shared by the QR code between the desktop and mobile.

WalletConnect is supported by Trust Wallet, MetaMask, and 10 other wallets.

How does it work?

Users are expected to have a mobile app that supports WalletLink or WalletConnect. The mobile crypto app needs to have a wallet address created or imported.

On the KyberSwap.com desktop site, once you click ‘…OTHERS’ and the WalletConnect or WalletLink button, you will be prompted with a QR code that you can scan using your mobile phone app. Just scanning the code allows you to access your mobile crypto wallet on KyberSwap.com desktop.

On the KyberSwap mobile app, you can click WALLET CONNECT to open up the QR code scanner.

The mobile app doesn’t share your private key data with the DApp. Instead you are signing the transaction on the mobile app itself. Data is encrypted using the session data shared by the QR code between the desktop and mobile.
